No AM in most EVs due to interference. We do have FM though!

Personally I don’t miss AM, although I wish there was an emergency weather channel like I used to have in my Subaru. That saved my bacon a couple times.

I used to get weather alerts from SiriusXM in my last truck. A free 5 year subscription. I guess that's not an option either in a Rivian. I think the last use I had for AM was for ferry updates but WA State Ferries now support text/email alerts so I'm using that instead. Sort of sad that even non-EV manufacturers are dropping the AM option.

It probably has some sort of radio, but I have not attempted to use it even once so I can't confirm that it works.

With Spotify/Tunein/Tidal and soon Apple music that all know what I like and only play that, I have 0 desire to go back to an old fashioned radio that spends half the time playing ads and the other half playing songs that at best half of which I like.

Removing the radio antenna entirely would surely save way more money than removing the 12v outlets saved. Rivian chose the wrong things to cost cut.

FYI, it’s digital FM, so there’s a lag if you’re planning on doing a drive-in movie or something like that.

Many AM stations are on Tunein, iHeart and Audacy. Tunein is built in, for iHeart and Audacy, you will have to ask Alexa to play that station. This also requires cellular service -- and soon Connect+, hopefully tethering will allow all existing functionality.

AM radio inclusion in vehicles is being pushed by the Govt for emergency purposes.

My Mustang Mach E had AM radio never listened to it...I wish Rivian would fix the damn infotainment system to something respectable....I don't care so Android Automotive whole app store of stuff to choose from. Then charge me for connect + I have a hard time right now paying for a hot mess...

It's both. You can turn off the HD radio if you want.
Oh really? I didn’t know that. So, if I turn off the HD radio I won’t hear any lag when a drive-in theater broadcasts the audio?

Works fine for me. What about it is a ā€œhot messā€?

It has HD which can be turned off. But it appears to be an SDR (Software Defined Radio) so there is decoding/processing taking place for any signal. If I recall correctly another thread a while back indicated there was still a lag.
