I need to move my R1S to LA area from NJ. My company is moving it through a company called - AutoRelocationPlus, Inc. i am planning to print the following and give it to them.

Have any of you done the transport with open car carrier and can you give me any input. So that I or they don’t screw up my mochi(r1s name)

I have done one open car transport and three closed. I would never do open again. If you put a perfectly new car in one end of an open transport, it will come out as crap on the other with road gunk and scratches etc. Just my experience.

Thank you. Let me ask for enclosed car transport and see what they can do.

Can you track Rivian when it is in transport with your app or I need to drop in a AirTag?

I'd echo iansriv's comments. While there hasn't been major damage, the cars I've gotten on open carriers looked awful. But closed carriers have been fine.

Tracking would probably depend on the transport setting condition. If it's a short time then it would probably be in a normal mode and you could track it; unlike an Atlantic crossing setting. I'm sure others can provide more detail.

And don't forget to leave your jack pucks on the dash. They may say they have pucks, but DO NOT expect anyone will have their own pucks to fit Rivian!

And don't expect them to read the manual. Provide a quick detail of how to .... Otherwise, don't bother with the manual, except as back up or additional info.

Closed or DYI. Remember the shipping company is just a broker. They won’t be the people shipping it. Be warned.

good news is your gear guard will probably record the entire thing. Mine did. Was interesting to say the least!

I’ve always driven my cars when I move bc I weirdly enjoy it…but my dad has shipped both open and closed and never had damage to his car.

I also love your R1s name.

Rivian sent a tow truck to my house to transport my R1T to Richmond for some warranty work. The guys definitely know what they were doing and did a good job. If the R1T is put in transport mode the GPS won't track it. I dropped an air tag in my sunglasses case. I would check with your Rivian service center and ask for recommendation for someone that they have used to tow Rivians.

I've moved close to a dozen cars using shipping brokers, three in enclosed carriers. One was a Toyota Tacoma (sent to and from northwest WA state to Houston) that was a bit grimy at deliveries but undamaged both times. The shipper gives you the opportunity to note damage at pickup and inspect damage at arrival. I didn't have any major issues but some lessons:

@Noplacelikeloam noted the company that the customer works with initially is just a broker, make sure you understand how to contact the actual shipping company. Sometimes the brokers have been good go-betweens but you always need the shipper contact at some point. They generally call you a day or two before delivery.

The shipper occasionally runs behind schedule which can lead to a pick-up time that may be after dark. Bring a good light for inspection.

Take pictures of everything, especially the company contact info that's often written on the driver's door.

Most minor damage that was caused by shippers was actually interior damage. One was a van that looked like a person slept in the back seat. My Corvette had a dirty footprint/scratch over the door speaker cover. One had a scratch on the roof, so don't forget to check there.

See if you can negotiate mileage reimbursement vs using an auto carrier. Unless your vehicle is put on first or it's a non-stop trip, they'll be taking your truck off and on throughout the trip as they drop off other cars. More chances for damage.

I will be shipping my open next summer. I shipped my new BMW X5 3 years ago open and it arrived without a single issue and cost about 40% less than closed. Not with the extra money unless you have a irreplaceable vehicle like a classic or custom designed vehicle or of course your made of money
