Fragile Windshield. On my third replacement

Has anyone else had problems with the windshield on their R1T? I've had my truck for a little more than a year, and I'm on my third windshield. I've never had to replace a windshield this much on any other vehicle I've owned.

Have had a chip sealed, but still on my OG windshield. Sucks to be unlucky.

I assume that it is just bad luck, But I only drove it for 10 months! So that's pretty bad luck.

I live in CO which chews up windshields like few places on earth and I have made it just past 1 year with only a chip seal repair a few months ago.

But to your point, OP, many others have had to replace theirs 1-2 times already. You are the first I have heard that is on #3 though. I'm sorry about that

I’ve fixed 3 cracks from rock strikes within the last year using Rain-X Windshield Repair Kits.

Is there a ceramic coat or other protective film for windshields ?

Both of these have been rock strikes that immediately cracked to the edges of the windshield, so no repair was possible. They had to be replaced. Oddly, both occurred near the bottom of the windshield in the 8 inches of glass that is not visible from inside the cab.

So.... THIRD windshield means you've replaced the windshield TWICE?

We have about 11K miles on our R1's. The R1T broke without any impact noise somewhere in South Dakota -- I suspect a stress fracture from an installation defect, will get our Service Center to look at it eventually. It also took a rock hit, which did NOT propagate, on I-90 in Billings. (Lotta rocks flying that day in Billings -- apparently Montanans are more likely to drive trucks onto freeways with mud still in their tires....)

No windshield problems yet with the R1S, which has 8K miles.

Why would you “need” to replace it when the crack isn't even visible from inside? As a Canadian, the idea of keeping a pristine windshield is a fantasy. The front of my FJ looks like the surface of the moon.

I suppose "need" is pretty strong. But in modern vehicles, the windshield itself plays a role in the structural integrity of the vehicle during a crash. A cracked windshield doesn't do it's role properly. And here in the US, a cracked windshield is a violation that can get you a fine. And, yes, I like my vehicles to be pristine.

I basically only drive in All-Purpose. So, the R1T is much higher off the ground than my Prius with a massive windshield that was never broken in 10 years of ownership. That's why I was a little suspicious of the quality of the glass in the R1T.
