Has anyone else had problems with the windshield on their R1T? I've had my truck for a little more than a year, and I'm on my third windshield. I've never had to replace a windshield this much on any other vehicle I've owned.
Just anecdotal obviously but I had the same thing happen with a single vehicle that hindsight/history shows there was no systemic issue with the windshield glass. I never had to replace windshield glass before ( 5 different vehicles over 6 years) but in 2001 I bought a Chevy S10 pickup, the first year I owned it I went through 4 windshields. In the 4 years I owned it I replaced the windshield 7 times total. I've owned 6 vehicles since and never replaced a windshield since that S10. I drove the same route to work at the same time for the 2 years preceding owning that S10 and for 3 years after. Luck is weird sometimes

Yep. 3 chip repairs for our R1S in just a little over a year. Been driving the same mountain highways and backroads for about a decade w only 1 chip repair on our previous SUV. Seems like a quality (not luck) issue IMO. Perhaps just a small trade off for everything else the Riv offers as a total package tho!

I hate rock chips more than anything. My last three cars now, including the R1S get full front PPF and I am very careful about what I drive behind. No more dump trucks, landscaping trucks or flatbed trailers hauling earth moving equipment. IF I get stuck behind one I back way off and usually pull off the road until there is more distance between us. Haven't had a rock chip since.

Now watch, because I just said this I'll get hit by one....

@OP I'm sorry to hear about having to replace your windshield 3 times already.

I'm not convinced you have had bad luck. I am convinced that the windshield on the R1T is a lot more upright than most other trucks which leads to a higher likelihood that a rock is going to impact and damage the windshield rather than skip off of it.

I would strongly consider putting on a protective film after going through so many windshields.

Look at the difference in the angle of the A pillar between an R1T and a Lightning.

The Rivian windshield sits much more upright....

Maybe the Chevy S10 uses the same spec glass as the Rivian's.

Still on the first shield I have 13 rock chips repaired within 75K miles the glass shop guys are making fun filling. Driven mostly on Wyoming roads in winter. Nothing propagated yet but the windshield is getting hazy. Time to replace soon.

Everybody I know who drive a Rivian R1T had to replace the windshield at least once....
I'm driving with my third windshield cracked just because it is not yet a safety issue.
Look through the threads. there are many discussions on the low quality of the glass.
Rivian reply, It meets minimum standards......

Has anyone else had problems with the windshield on their R1T? I've had my truck for a little more than a year, and I'm on my third windshield. I've never had to replace a windshield this much on any other vehicle I've owned.

Me too. Just gave up replacing it so I'm driving around with a cracked windshield.

Mine just cracked for no apparent reason. I have 44k miles with no issues up to this point. You obviously have done a lot of research for replacement, any suggestions & what did they cost?

No argument here that Rivian windshield are fragile, but I've had "Tarkus" (My R1S) for 11 months now & almost 37,000 miles & only a very small nick in the lower black area of the windshield on the passenger side, so far. I drive 150-200 miles per day, 5 days a week working from Tarkus as I Drive Test the accuracy of Wireless 911 Calls Nationwide & with over 2 million miles in my lifetime of driving, I've learned who to stay away from on the highways & by-ways nationwide.

About $2K. Use certified collision center listed on Rivian website.

I agree, I think that lower angle is probably a factor in comments above comparing R1 to Prius and Tesla experiences. Their windshields have a much gentler slope so rock hits are less direct and more likely to glance off.

I got my first chip on my R1S just Thursday on a long drive - noticed the noise but not the chip until a day or so later. Got home Sunday and booked Safelite chip repair for first thing this morning. Unfortunately when I got in the car I found the chip had become a ten inch crack, despite being out of the sun in the garage. Safelite can get an OEM windshield in next week, but can’t calibrate it. So I’ll look at SC and Today’s Collision, a Tesla and Rivian certified shop.

I’ll add my ‘AnecData’, about ~5,600 miles little less than a year ownership.
Heard a Rock bounce off driver side bottom corner and got a Spiderweb crack.
Safelite ‘fixed’ the impact, some day I’ll need to replace it…

and the great expansion begins while sitting in garage with recent heatwave …
