Might be, a vast majority if not all of those patch notes seems directed at G2.

My best guess is yes. It's a completely different HW platform and architecture. Bundling both updates under 1 package doesn't make sense. Bundling both under the same version label doesn't make sense.

Gen 1 owners will need to be very vocal for as long as we own our vehicles now. We've already seen that Rivian, as would any other business, attempt to short change us in order to prioritize Gen 2.

This pains me as a Gen 1 owner. It would be great if they had a Gen 1 -> Gen 2 loyalty discount program.

Or better yet, make vehicles that are more modular in nature and can have their compute modules upgraded. It would be awesome if they had a Gen2 retrofit upgrade package (minus the motors). Talk about a huge talking point to really drive home sustainable vehicles!

So you want Gen 2 owners to sit around and deal with their bugs until Gen 1 is ready for a new update? That makes sense. /s

Not sure where you got that impression from, as I never stated that.

In fact, my first statement suggests that it's branched in order to promote Gen 2 updates not awaiting Gen 1, and vice versa.

Perhaps you need your morning coffee

Plus what’s wrong with issuing updates that fix issues with one platform while adding features to all. This has been done for years with Macs, iPhones, and Surface devices. I had imagined they’d be supporting them all with single updates that would ensure ongoing updates and platform support of older HW.

My guess is that we will see a few more updates for gen 2 before gen 1 gets another. Gen 2s are a mess at the moment and they’re going to be devoting their resources to deal with that. As far as what gen 1 will get going forward, my guess is most of the infotainment features and other maintenance items but I don’t expect further “development” of the platform. That’s fine with me, it’s a great car for the most part and decidedly more sorted than the gen 2 at the moment.

You state that Rivian is already trying to short change gen 1 owners to prioritize gen 2. How else could I possible read that. and Gen 1 owners need to be very vocal, again employing the gen 1 is being slighted.
All because gen 2 got bug fixes/enhancements before your next update?

Yeah, don’t know how I misread you there.

I’ll move along.
