My daughter lost her retainer when it slid into the seatbelt buckle area of the 3rd row of our R1S. There is a gap there that seems to lead somewhere not accessible via the seats or the trunk under those flaps. Anyone have any ideas on how to get in there?

Yes! My friendā€˜s son lost a switch controller to that void. It leads to a gap above the carpet-like trim in the spare tire well area. I’ll see if I can dig up some pics…

Sorry, no great pics. I have an 8-second 34MB video showing the area but the RF site keeps giving me the dreaded, ā€œOops, we ran into a problem,ā€ sigh. Maybe @Administrator can get this fixed since this isn’t a huge video by any stretch.

Hopefully my typed description helped. If you look in the spare tire well towards the front of the car there is an overhang with a nearly-triangular void which is about where the large dark shadow is here:

Just identifying the location was more than half the battle. After that it was a matter of moving the liner by removing some trim clips and bending the liner material out of the way enough to grab the controllers. Let me know if you need more info.

I really don’t understand why Rivian shaped the liner this way since it wastes a bit of cargo area and, worse, creates this void to trap things.

Might be overkill, but maybe try removing the seats? Lots of threads about it.

Good luck, let us know what you wind up doing.
Total overkill.

Moving the spare well liner out of the way took me about 10 minutes from start to finish and most of that was taking everything I store in the well out and then putting it all back in.

@IGranite I was able to upload so you can get a better idea of the location.

Thank you! This was extremely helpful, it only took about 2 minutes, all in, to get the retainer out this way, including putting everything back in place.
