I noticed a heat issue mentioned in this thread. My StowNCharge stopped working today for the first time. I immediately thought heat may be the cause since the vehicle was hot. Are others still experiencing this problem? I arrived home, went in side and came back out to test it and it worked. By this time the sun was just about down and the interior temperature was cooler.

I had a recent heat issue as well. Would not charge when car was sitting in the sun for a few hours. Worked later that night.

@Mcdubjr is this a known issue? Is there a fix?

It is the pucks themselves, they switch off when they are too hot

Yes, heat can be an issue. From what I've googled Apple Magsafe chargers are only rated to work up to 95 F. A car in direct sunlight can get much hotter than this, especially in hot climates.

I've had this happen myself in the summer - the chargers started working after they cooled but it took longer than I thought it would. I've also heard from a couple customers that it seems to come back to life faster after a power toggle (either unplugging manually or leaving car for like 5 mins). In my mind the power reset wakes them up faster after some kind of safety toggle in the charger engaged but I'm really just guessing.

I had this happen to me today for the first time as well. My R1T was sitting in the driveway in the sun for a few hours (usually in the garage) and I couldn't get either side to charge the rest of the day.

NOTE: Nothing on the surface of the unit above where the pucks are was warm to the touch.

It happened to me again today. I guess we need to get use to this. Carry a cable for emergencies.

Great idea to carry a spare charging cord. I’ve been experiencing the same issue in the heat. My phone wouldn’t charge so when I came home, I connected the Apple MagSafe puck directly to the usb and the phone had no issues charging. I wonder if it’s a Rivian software update causing these issues. It’s the best looking charger in my opinion.

With the keycard "hold to start" location changing on the Gen 2 from the door to the charging pad, should we assume these third party charging pad replacements will likely prevent the keycard from being used to start the vehicle?

Yeah, I'm assuming my product will not be compatible with Gen 2. Perhaps there could be a way to retain the card reader, but I just have no info currently.

The heat problem isn't with the pucks. It's with the power adapter that plugs into the factory harness. It has some form of heat protection built in.

Next time your charger stops working, move it over to the other one and most of the time it will work. Also, just put a puck lose in your truck... It will work while your puck in the stowncharge does not.

I'm thinking the adapter limits the power available when it gets too hot. So, once that limit is tripped it sometimes has enough power to drive one of the pucks...

Another very happy customer leaving a positive review of this. I had the TWRAPs one before this, and was never quite happy with it. This one feels and looks so much more premium, and being able to insert my own charging pucks definitely future proofs it for me (I tend to switch back and forth between Samsungs and iPhones every couple of years).

That said, heat is an issue for me as well. It's not the outside temp for me though, even in a cool cabin, my phone is quickly getting too hot to touch and charging slows way down within just a couple of minutes (doesn't happen with my other wireless chargers at home). I'm still evaluating if the issue is with the JSAUX pucks, my phone, or my magsafe case. I'll try swapping to the Apple brand charger and see if it makes a difference. I do wonder if having more airholes between the top half of the mount that holds the pucks and the main body would improve cooling. The pucks don't look like they have much breathing room in there. And if there was more space, I'd even consider sticking on a couple of heatsinks to the bottom side of the pucks, but since they are pressed flat on the backside that won't work.

I'll update as I learn more. Even with my heating issues, this is miles above any other solution out there right now. Worth every penny!

Received my StowNCharge today. Looks really nice. Unfortunately the pucks I bought separately on Amazon are too large to fit. I've reached out to the vendor for suggestions, but figured I'd post here as well for any ideas.

Was trying to use these: Anker MagSafe Charger Compatible, MagGo Magnetic Wireless Charger (Pad), Qi2 Certified 15W Wireless Charger https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CMH2JVMM/

Any suggestions for Qi2-compatible pucks that work with the latest Google Android phones such as Pixel 8 Pro, and are physically compatible with the StowNCharge? Tia! ☺

Edit: I've already bought a "MagSafe" case for my phone so am invested in the ecosystem now. Would like to make this work, LOL. ?

Just buy Apple pucks: they are recommended. Side note: why did Anker make them with a curved bottom? That’s a utility breaker in general.

I use one official Apple puck and one "RAVpower Qi" puck that appears to no longer be available on Amazon.

The "ESR Qi Puck" should work fine, though: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CKXKYSMY

This one should work, and charges faster, but I'm not 100% if the included removable cable will fit properly, you may need a slimmer-connector USB-C cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSSQD4ZC

Thanks! I saw that second one, but didn't think the removable cable would fit.

I've tried sitting my phone on top of someone's "MagSafe" puck at the office and it did nothing. The phone didn't even recognize that it was on a charger. So not holding out much hope for the "official Apple one" working.

A shame the Anker's didn't fit. They charged really well.

Regardless, going with the option that always seems to work best for me on Amazon: Order every single product available and return whatever doesn't work. Starting with these. ??
