We have a Lucid Air Touring and an R1S. We love both and they clearly have very different approaches to design and targeted customers.

We will likely lease another Rivian R1S after our 3 year lease is up. It's the perfect Colorado EV and I can't say enough good things about it. Having said that, our Lucid Air is one of the best vehicles we've owned, and the fit/finish, ride quality, and driving dynamics are far superior to the Rivian. The Air also is extremely impressive in terms of interior and storage space. If Lucid can deliver a similar experience with the Gravity it will likely attract a lot of the premium SUV buyers who want more of a city SUV versus the rugged Rivian style.

I'm headed to the Lucid studio this weekend in Denver to check out the Gravity in person for the first time. Not sure if I would replace the Lucid Air (our lease is up next April) with the Gravity as having two large SUVs probably doesn't make sense, but it will be hard to not buy/lease another Lucid vehicle. They possibly are the best engineered EVs on the market.

i know it wont have much off-road chops but its pretty clear 95% of R1S owners dont go off-road
Aw come on. People don't make that kind of a calculation.

95% of the people don't need a range more than 50 miles on a daily basis. That doesn't mean an EV with a 50 mile range will sell ...

People don't buy based on their typical use case - they buy based on whether it will meet 100% of their needs. So if they ever plan to take a road trip, even once, they want a range of 500 miles whether that is realistic or not. And if they ever plan to go camping, even once, they want higher ground clearance, whether realistic or not.

If all you really need is a people hauler for short distances, then yes there are options other than the R1S. If you want something to take on dirt/gravel roads, deal with deep snow, standing water, and high curbs, then I don't think there is any other vehicle that will do the job.

For me, a Tesla (S/3/X/Y) was just never an option because it wasn't even in the same class of vehicle that I needed. Those models are just not comparable to the R1S/R1T, and I didn't cross-shop them.

The Gravity looks like a nice vehicle, but it really doesn't compare to the R1S/R2S. At least for *my* use cases.

It does look pretty darn sexy.
I'm not kidding, nor am I giving you grief over this, but you're literally the first person I've seen say that about it.

I really liked the Gravity until I showed it to my wife. Her immediate reaction was "why are you showing me another minivan?" Now I can't unsee it.
Yeah, I sent it to my brother in law since he likes the Air. He has zero interest in it because it looks like I mini-van. I tried to sell him on it being a stretch ID.4, and that didn't work.

I think it's the short hood relative to the body with the vertical rear that gives it the minivan lines as much as anything.
Yeah it’s definitely the proportions. It’s what makes minivans, and the Gravity, so practical and space efficient.

Wish Lucid the best. Great specs and I think it will be a nice vehicle. But the Gravity is a minivan, so it won’t compete directly with the R1S.
It's more like a station wagon, more competition for the Model X.
They are using marketing terms like Adventure & Utility which in real terms it completely lacks compared to a R1S.
If going that route I would go Gravity as I am really not a fan of the X styling or lack thereof.
Since the manufacturers are calling all the station wagon's SUV's it seems a new term is needed for actual SUV's.

Lucid would already be bankrupt if not for the Saudi investment. They lose about $350,000 per vehicle sale. That isn't too bad, because they only make 22 a day. To stay on track, I hope they make it, because they absolutely build a fantastic product. Fit, finish and overall luxury is very high.

The factory is 30 minutes from me and I know multiple people who work there. The Gravity does look better in-person, but it's absolutely a cross over at best and a mini-van at worst. The 440mi version will be $100K.

Same here !! we have a Lucid First edition and an R1S. The Lucid has no equal in driving dynamics. They just nailed it. If the Gravity inherits the same driving experience, the R1S is a goner.

i get that looks are subjective, and personally I like the look of the R1S better than the Gravity. The minivan comparisons are pretty silly as just about any normal SUV can look like a minivan in some ways. My guess is the Gravity in person has a much different presence and will look very premium and unique.

The single biggest difference between the Gravity and other electric SUVs will be the driving dynamics. Lucid really focuses on this aspect for their vehicles, and they are targeting the Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Urus for dynamics. I'm sure some of you will laugh or write this off, but go drive a Lucid Air, and watch some of the Savage Geese videos. Lucid knows what they are doing and will likely build the best driving SUV on the market. For some, this is very appealing versus a rugged truck like drive.

I'm glad both the R1S and the Gravity exist, and hope both Rivian and Lucid survive. The more choices the better.
