Gear Tunnel Slide Options Compared

I've been doing some research ahead of my decision and purchase. There are a lot of great options. I thought I'd share here and see if there were any other thoughts/considerations or options I'm missing.

BoxGods
Price - $1000, but $1300 to $1500 shipped depending on location (1300 on west coast, 1500 on east)
Availability - TBD, but based on latest posts seems like late this year
Slide function - pulls out fully from drivers and passenger side
Pros

• Pulls fully out from either direction
• Price is very competitive as it’s tied with EV Base as the cheapest option (assuming the price estimate holds). Especially competitive when you consider it pulls out in both directions and has a power outlet
• There is a camp kitchen project that should be ready soon
• Includes power outlets, (and does it in a more custom/creative way to save space vs range industries)

Cons

• Going to require freight shipping at $300 to $500 putting it at the top end in terms of price
• No website to order from. Need to sign up and pay via link you get in an email. Although this is the 2nd Rivian project and the first one was successful (12 gallon frunk water tank)
• No locked in price or release date yet. Estimates only, but a working release candidate has been sent to a customer with posted pictures and videos, so should be soon.
• No t-track or easy tie down options for gear, but the include dividers and the holes should mitigate that issue some

Interrobang
Price - $1400
Availability - November target
Slide function - pulls out partially (40") from drivers and passenger side
Pros

• Pulls fully out from either direction
• Seems very diy friendly if you want to customize. Endless possibilities due to the plank design and good option for a diy camp kitchen

Cons

• While the plank design yields better customization, by default it creates issues with items sliding off the slide. Totes or boxes are going to be needed
• Seems pricey for what it is
• Not available yet

EV Sportline
Price $900 (base slide only, but realistically ~$1400 after options)
Availability - now
Slide function - pulls only partially out in either direction
Pros -

• Lots of add on options for tools and storage
• Seems like the best option for a work truck where you can quickly access your tools from either side in most parking conditions
• If you like the split slide (half passenger/driver) design, it's the only option
• Price if you want the base slide for a DIY setup (as long as the split design aligns with your use-case)
• The small slide out drawer is pretty slick and a good use of space

Cons -

• Because it doesn't fully extend, it doesn't work well for those wanting to have a camp kitchen. Also limited for longer items that require a full extension. Probably best option for a work truck, but probably the worst option for overlanding.
• No t-track or easy tie down options for gear, but there are multiple bolt bosses that should mitigate that issue some with additional hardware.

EVBase
Price $900 (Can be had with coupons for sub-$800, regularly $989)
Availability - now
Slide function - pulls out fully but only in ONE direction
Pros

• Price. A lot cheaper than other options
• DIY friendly and a good option for a camp kitchen
• I like the T-Slot

Cons

• Some negative reviews on fitment, flex, and reports of poor customer service
• Pull out in one direction is going to limit how you park

Range Industries
Price - $1300 base, $1450 with Power outlet
Availability - now
Slide function - pulls out fully but only in ONE direction (can be switched driver/passenger)
Pros

• Power outlet option could be very useful (especially as a future kitchen slide)
• DIY friendly and a good option for a camp kitchen

Cons

• Pull out in one direction is going limit how you park
• It’s expensive and I’m not sure why one would pay $300+ more over the EVBase which is similar (unless you wanted the outlet for ~450 more)

Thunderbolt Adventure Supply
Price - $1400 (on sale now for 1300)
Availability - Now
Slide Function - pulls out fully but only in ONE direction (can be switched driver/passenger)
Pros

• Has a few cool accessary options (e.g. overland bin)
• Seems very diy friendly if you want to customize. Endless possibilities due to the plank design
• Can buy their camp kitchen that integrates well with the slide (I like the way it drops in and out easily)
• The only plank option (that I know of) that you can buy now

Cons

• It's a plank design like Interrobang's and it's the same price...but Interrobang's can pull out in both directions
• Pull out in one direction is going limit how you park.

For my use cases, I really want something that pulls out fully, so EV Sportline is out. I think I could live with a slide that only pulls out in 1 direction, but both directions are ideal. While I’m sure the material and build quality justifies it, the extra price for Range Industries doesn't make sense vs the other options. Intrrobang looks like a great option if slide out in either direction is critical, but it's pricey. If BoxGods can keep the price and timeline estimates, it is a no brainer option. You just get more (full slide in both directions + power outlets) for less money. If not, EVBase is an attractive 2nd option based on the price.

Did I miss any?

Edit: Updated with Thunderbolt Adventure Supply's option (Thanks for the note below!). It's really great to see all the options we have for the R1T which is a bit surprising considering it's a pretty low volume vehicle. Also edited the above to include some of the other inputs from various posts on this thread.

Edit2: Updated with some news on pricing from BoxGods and some negative reports from EVBase. I also clarified that Interrobang doesn't actually extend fully (only 40"). I ruled out EV Sportline in my original post, but they are now my front runner.

You missed Thunderbolt Adventure Supply. Our sled is made from powder-coated aluminum and utilized linear bearings for superior weight capacity and smooth movement. It can be ordered driver side or passenger side. It can also be reversed with minimal effort and a few tools. It has a two receptacle power supply integrated into the slide. Lots of places to tie down items with bungees or straps. It is made to receive our kitchen available in Marine Grade plywood or aluminum and bamboo.

I believe @EV Sportline has a camp kitchen in development for the passenger side where the 120v plug is.

Personally, I went with this when Boxgods decided to go single slide (I voted a split slide). We had two angled totes in each side to keep his/hers hiking/camping/travel items. If we went with a single slide, only one of us could grab stuff at a time. And with it being half the length, as long as you have room to open the gear tunnel you can grab anything you need from it. Only once have I needed to store something long, a mirror from Lowes that surprisingly didn't fit in the backseat or bed but did in the gear tunnel.

Thanks for mentioning this, as it was important to us in our design. We wanted a low profile to optimize the amount of space remaining in the tunnel. The Interrobang Gear Glide Tunnel Tray leaves 15.5" clearance, if no adjustments are necessary. We will have risers available for those that need to adjust the height of the Tray due to the position of their tunnel door.

We also get that a canoe design is what some people are be looking for in their gear glide, but we chose the plank design for space optimization as well as customization. We're working on dividers, a bunch of bins and other attachments to make the most out of your Gear Tunnel Storage.

Yeah good point. That's a major consideration and a couple inches is easily worth a few hundred dollars. Problem is, that information is not easily attenable. It would be great if manufactures published a diagram with dimensions similar to this (but obviously higher fidelity). It's a little bit easier to understand with just a height measurement for the plank designs (Thanks @Sara@Interrobang for the above), but for the ones that have sides and ridges, we really need more detail.

Also, good point @Riviot on the EV Sportline. While the split slide approach doesn't work for me, it's the only option that has it, so it's really a feature. EV Sportline's solution is unique, so I updated it to be a pro above.

Edit: We need diagrams exactly like @Rivolt posted below from EV Sportline. That is perfect!

I have the Range Industries slide (with outlet) and it slides and locks as it should. I chose to have it slide on the drivers side because I reverse into the garage and therefore have the ability to fully open the slide while parked in the garage.

Should my parking situation change the slide opening can be reversed to open on the passengers side if needed. Having options is good.

This setup works for me and I feel comfortable recomending this product.

However,the concept of a kitchen is most entertaining. to that end, I have an evolving "micro" kitchen built upon the EV Sportline sled. Easy to set up and would work from either side of the truck.
The evolution includes:
1. Water bottles (2 gal.) placced in the EV Sportline small accessory box. A Dometic battery water pump is used and held in place with itss magnetic bottom.

2. A collapsible "sink" .... also held in place with magnets

3. A 10" magnetic knife holder ..... that permanently stays mounted to the EV Sportline 3 drawer cabinet. Ther is just space enough for the gear door to close.... but not with utensils mounted.

4. A magnetic paper towel holder ... that mounts under the tilt-up counter top

5. A cutting board & cooking table ..... that stows away behind the tilt-up counter.
The cutting board/table slides under the front lip of the sliding tray and sits atop the small pull out drawer. Grooves are dut into the bottom of the board to fit over the top edgges of the tinyh drawer. .... thus it is very stable.

6. Two 110v panel outlets were installed to make it easy to access power for any cooking equipment. I used 12/2 extension cord for connecting to the tunnel outlet.

7. Two battery powered lights with magnetic bases are mounted on the side for cooking and the truck (to the high left of the the door) for the work table.

As my micro kitchen is evolving, any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

For the future:

1. An awning that would attach ... somehow .... to the roof and to a post on the bed of the truck and cover the cooking area.

It looks like both the Range and EV Base slides have two levels which looks like it may limit what can fit flat on the slide. Has that caused any problems for you?

FWIW, I was early on board (before delivery of my R1T) with BoxGod’s gear tunnel slide design, tracked down initially via this forum, as well as the planned follow-on camp kitchen. It has been an insightful journey to have some pre-manufacturing visibility and be able to provide some level of feedback along the way as Gene worked through the design, options, and inevitable trade-offs. For me it has been like watching an artist at work creating something very unique. As more of a ‘labor of love’ (aka part-time) effort for him, it has required patience from those of us who WANT IT YESTERDAY (and admittedly not my best skill), but all indications are the end product is very close and will be well worth the wait. I had a similar wait for his custom 12 gallon frunk water tank (finished product received well before my Rivian delivery) and the level of detail design, fit, finish, forethought, and precision, professional manufacturing was very impressive, at least to my engineering mindset.
