Might have to see if I can jump on the that feature request.
Make sure you tell your guide. They pass the feature requests and bug reports onto the correct teams. If enough people ask for it they are more likely to do something.

Got a reply back from Rivian today.

<email>
Thank you for reaching out, and we appreciate you thinking about us as we progress in our efforts to ramp up vehicle deliveries. Safety is a significant priority, and we can’t wait to get you behind the wheel.

This is the first time I have heard of 2-factor authentication for a vehicle, but it seems like a great feature to implement. I will pass this along to our team, and once again, we appreciate you reaching out to share this with us. Our team is always looking for community feedback to improve our vehicles. We left plenty of headroom in our vehicles to be able to add more features down the road, and you can read more about that on this link. However, I can’t speak to the certainty of implementing this great-sounding feature but rest assured your information will be passed along.

We like to wish you a great rest of your day, and we appreciate you thinking about us. Our team is thrilled to have you join us on this exciting journey. We are here to help every step of the way and look forward to hearing from you if anything else comes up.

Your fellow adventurer,

Luis

Unfortunately a $60K+ late model Ford pickup was stolen right out of the driveway five houses down the road from us this morning at 5:30am. I also have video of the punks casing every driveway up and down the street, including mine, looking for unlocked vehicles half an hour earlier at 5am. Scary stuff...

Anyway, it got me thinking that the Tesla feature on our Model 3 "PIN To Drive" is an excellent option to have activated because even with the 2-man crews using relay boxes reading the key fobs inside your front door and relaying it to the fob emulator near the car, even if they get in the Tesla.. without the PIN the Tesla is still immobilized.

My point... does Rivian currently have a "PIN to Drive" feature?

I agree we need a PIN. Love the rivian but they have a lot to catchup in software .

They don’t have it but PIN to drive (similar to Tesla) has been near the top of the consumer OTA wishlist for awhile and I thought I had seen it labeled as “in progress” meaning it’s being worked on (or at least considered)

Just reached out to support via the app about adding PIN to drive, Valet mode & a new driver/reduced power mode. Great ideas!!

How is it that we're in late 2024 and this still is not a thing in our R1's? I'd love to hear from Rivian what the hold-up is - it should have been in a SW update years ago.

It's definitely on the way, confirmed by Wassym. Just taking longer than expected, likely due to Gen 2 induced delays.

I rarely use my key fob...I use it so little that I take the battery out of it when not using it.

I also don't like to Valet the Rivian as that's a lot of power for an unfamiliar person to drive. I wish Rivian would create a "Vallet Mode" that's limit torque and speed to 15MPH. That's all the valley needs. Heck...even the 2010 Tesla Roadster in the house as a Valet mode...

Look at it this way, my Amazon account and Ebay account both have MFA enabled. Even if both of those accts somehow got hacked and maxed out, it would probably only amount to about $20K as I only keep one CC on file with Amazon and only PP info on file with Ebay. But, in comparison... it only takes a phone or a fob or a key card to make off with or operate my $90K, 800+HP vehicle o_O

Don't even get me started about "speech to text" and/or "creep mode".
While we're at it... how about the ability to turn auto "HOLD" mode off? Not everyone appreciates the friction brakes grabbing when trying to back up onto a 2" trailer ball with the brakes digging in when you try just back up one final inch

To be fair, if they made off with your phone there is a non-zero chance they have access to all of the aforementioned accounts as well as any other accounts on your phone.

And all it takes is a fob to make off with a $2 million Bugatti as well...

Just discovered this thread, it seems Rivian has yet to implement PIN to drive but it’s on the list of future improvements. That’s good to know, as the risk of relay attacks by thieves is real given that the necessary hardware cost is next to nothing, though most people I talk to about it have never heard of it. I’ve turned on PIN to drive in both my Teslas even though they are parked in a locked garage in an underground parkade; thieves can also target cars in parking lots, intercepting and copying the fob code when you have the fob on you so that when you come back the car has vanished.

PIN to drive is a minor inconvenience for the driver but I don’t mind, it just takes a few seconds. Rivian needs to get on this! I’m hoping to become an R1S owner in the not too distant future.

It doesn't have it and I REALLY WANT IT! Really hope they add it in the future.
Seems like something that would be doable thru a download. That’s how Tesla did it as the 2015 models did not have the pin feature originally. Agree would like to have this added layer of security sooner rather than later. And to add to this a valet mode will be needed so you could leave your access card say at hospital parking with the valet and temporarily disable the need for a pin but lock the hood, armrest storage, and screen settings.
