So I get a squeaking noise outside the car whenever I regen brake or accelerate at low speeds (happens constantly all the time). Doesn’t matter if the road is bumpy or not so don’t believe it’s suspension related. Also noticed the faint squeaking when I’m in the highway and I start to regen brake (going from 70 mph to 60mph).

I read on the forums that turning off Regen Braking Assist might solve the issue but when I go Driver+ menu an option to turn off that feature does not exist (assume one of the recent updates got rid of that ability). Anyone here know how I might be able to solve? I submitted a service request but a mobile technician can’t be out here until mid December.

Thx all.

Also the car is brand new (2025 R1S), so I’ve had the car for just a week. It didn’t make the noise for the first few days but not it happens constantly.

It's definitely the assist, as regen braking doesn't use the hydraulic brakes. ACC and HWA will, however.

Turned off ACC & HWA and still getting the squeaking. Also my Driver Assistance doesn’t have the Regenerative Braking Assist option your menu has. Is that ur current Driver Assistance Menu? My menu has less options. Could this be the bird chirping noise that others have also pointed out (not related to locking the door)?

you have the dual motor?

if you dont have the option to turn it off, then it likely means brake assist is on by default, which means its blending the regen and friction brake. its likely the friction brake making that noise.

since its a brand new car the brakes probably just need to be "worn in" or what they call "bedding in" in the brakes. you do this by accelerating and braking over and over for a few min, not crazy hard but firmly (dont just take your foot off the accelerator but actually press the brake pedal). also check for surface rust on the brake pads, if its there, doing the bedding in will also remove the rust.

Thx. Yes, 2025 dual motor. No visible surface rust on the brake pads and I’ve done the braking and non-braking (with the real brakes) during a 120 mile road-trip. I’ll give it another go at it tomorrow and see if that helps.

Regen braking assist is an option on my 2025 Dual Max. Which battery do you have? Maybe it's a battery dependent thing? If not, possibly an error that it's not showing for you

Thanks. It’s more faint and high pitched than that. Similar to squeaking normal cars make when there’s debris in the brakes. It it’s a much more faint sound with no grinding. Just high pitched. It also happens both when I accelerate and regen brake at low speeds.

From what I've heard about LFP batteries, they can be a bit picky with charging if temperature and current state of charge conditions aren't favorable. So I could see them forcing you to always have regen asist on to make it a little bit more predictable.

That drives me nuts that rivian has made all of these changes to the standard battery model without having any kind of communication or documentation

Got it. Thanks all. I’ll have them check the jounce lines when they come out for mobile service in December (with no service center appointments available to schedule at the moment).

You should contact support. Definitely not normal. Maybe as not serious as a bent brake dust shield. Or something else.
