From the English experts:

re·call

verb[rəˈkôl, rəˈkäl]
1. An act or instance of officially recalling someone or something:
2. Officially order (someone) to return to a place.

Unlike ICE cars, most of my notices on my Teslas to fix most issues did not require returning my Teslas to a place to address them.
Most of the CT issues I believe likewise did not force owners to take such vehicles to a place to address the said issues.
Therefore, those are not recalls, full stop.
An OTA update does not force owners to take a vehicle anywhere; therefore, OTA updates ARE NOT recalls. This by the very definition of the word "recall."
Important that we understand English, the meaning of the words, and apply them properly.
The dictionary, Really? Recalls for vehicles are specific thing with a specific definition and YES the ones I referenced about the CT qualify.

Anybody who has studied and taken time to look up English words, understand what they mean, the applications thereof will know what the word "recall" means.
A Tesla or Rivian OTA update to fix something, DOEST NOT a recall make, full stop.
You perhaps could look up the meaning of the word "recall" on many English dictionary websites to see what I mean.
I don't make the rules. I did not create or participate in the creation of the English language. I just try hard to follow the said rules :).
I'm confused.

Why would I look at the dictionary when the definition is really driven by the NHTSA?

Wouldn't I look at what the NHTSA has to say about it?

A vehicle recall doesn't say anything about how the fix needs to be applied.

In any case I don't think number of recalls is a good way to compare a vehicles reliability.

Haha

Tesla got the party started with the 12VDC battery failures

Rivian just carried the torch on.
Would be fine if both these brands would warn of the battery. They say they do, but rarely works it seems

Wow. I really try not to be a troll on this forum, but that was honestly one of the dumbest things I've read on here. As someone who has a degree and a license in interpreting the meaning of words and terms, especially terms which are legal in nature such as the term "recall" as used in federal statute and the related regulations promulgated and enforced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I can tell you that the word salad you posted above would make a sovereign citizen blush. And while I generally have no interest in being a grammar nazi on an automotive forum, if you are going to claim to "try hard to follow the said rules [of the English Language]" you should try harder.

My truck is too new to be "recalled", I mean, im still on the test drive.

May be the vehicle.
What I do know, is it's been 30+ hours now and Rivian of SJ has not reached out. Called twice, emailed....no "hey you're in line" No "we're sorry" No "what can we do".....They did pick up the phone each time I've called, no significant wait.

May be I did just get a software lemon. Dunno.

To the "yawn" guy, I did reach out to Riv, kindly I might add. Again, I've tried giving them the benefit of the doubt....Vehicles should be FAR more reliable than this.

My trust of said truck, not sure it'll ever be back, let alone 100%.

Ironically, I sold a Ford Maverick back to Carmax that was a whopping 11 months old. It too had an underdeveloped software system.

I rely, for my job as a glass rep, on Nav and sound/phone as a very significant tool. Not wanted, needed. But the car has to at least start.

It has nothing to do with how many CTs Tesla made. The reason they went through the list so quickly is because most of the people on it declined to convert their preorder to an actual order when presented with the opportunity.
I was trying to be funny. I failed.

No, not really. Driving without a wiper sucks and a slow to respond backup camera is annoying but aren’t an immediate risk to safety should they fail to work. The accelerator pedal sticking or your front suspension failing are immediate and have no work around.
Whaaaaa???

Have you ever driven in a major downpour? Wipers are pretty eff’n essential.

And what good is a backup camera that tells you what WAS behind you earlier? Keep in mind, the cyber dumpster has no other rear visibility.

I’ve driven without wipers and yes, it sucks but I still don’t think it fits into the same category as your accelerator being jammed or suspension falling off. As for a backup camera, most of us probably drove for many years without any cameras and did ok. It’s harder but again, I wouldn’t categorize it as dangerous like the other examples.

I’m not saying those things don’t need to be corrected, just that I personally put them in a different level of risk category.

With the camera I’d agree if there was a way to look out the rear window in the CT. There isn’t, so it escalates it to a safety issue. If there were bigger side mirrors it wouldn’t be as bad as I’ve driven commercial vans with no rear window for years. You need the side mirrors in that instance that are big enough to have the fish eye mirrors on them though.

So, got the R1T back on Friday 10/18. Service was great, they had the car five days technically .

Another 12V issue. It'll take a long time to restore my confidence. But I'm willing to try as the vehicle is good.....

Cheers all, M
