Tesla doesn’t approve of any third party adapters for use with its superchargers so I don’t think this is what’s happening.
A2Z got a Cease and desist from Tesla precisely because they didn't think their adapters were 'good enough' There was a whole engineering debate, etc, but yes, this recall is 100% because Tesla said they were not 'good enough' to use on Superchargers, even though A2Z claims otherwise (Still to this day, they claim the V1 is fine)

Here is the A2Z CEO explaining exactly what happened. Video is timestamped to the relevant section.

You're right, there is no official 'approval' process green checkmark certification process. Hence why I put it in quotes.

However, there is the 'Tesla goes after you legally unless they approve of your shit' certification process, which is what A2Z got. In the end, it's the same effect.

The V2 got 'approval' in that Tesla said it wasn't bad, and they pushed for a recall on the V1, so they got it. Simple as that.

No OEM is going to include an adapter with their car that Tesla doesn't like. Doesn't matter that there's no official approval process. There is an unofficial one in that Tesla worked with A2Z and said that while their V1 they thought was unsafe, they didn't think that about V2. So it is, de-facto, approved.

For those who have received replacement adapters, did you receive a tracking number for the shipment ? Or did it just show up ?

Does it show up on your account history on the A2Z site? I see the order on mine, but it's stopped at "CONFIRMED" as of Nov 15. No tracking info yet. I presume it's in some kind of staging step and they're waiting for the next batch to send out.

It was emailed to me.

They'll get to you, I'm sure its a huge back log. I legit signed up the moment it was released.

To clarify - I have no doubt they'll get to me, I was just curious if you see the tracking status in your account order history on their website. I see all three orders I've ever placed with A2Z on there, (V1, V2, and the safety replacement). V1 and V2 show as delivered with tracking info, and the replacement shows confirmation but nothing after that.

I signed up on Nov 7 at around 7PM Eastern.

My replacement adapter came today, but it didn't come with instructions to return the old one. Do I just throw it away?

You should have received emails from them that include a link to some instructions.

If you did not see the email for destroying and sending a picture back to A2Z so they have proof for any audit of the recall it is here;

============================

Dear Customer,

Thank you for trusting us and for your patience regarding the NHTSA recall #24E093000.

We are pleased to inform you that your replacement adapter is ready to ship, and a tracking number will be sent to you separately via email.

In the meantime, we kindly ask you to safely dispose of your V1 adapter by following the steps outlined in this video: https://bit.ly/3O6Oj9f.

Once you have completed the steps, the adapter will be rendered unusable.

For recycling, here are a few recommended options:

Specialized Recycling Services: Companies like Freedom Electronics offer specific programs

for recycling EV charging equipment. For instance, they provide an EV Charger Recycling

Program with incentives for returning non-working Level 2 chargers.

Municipal E-Waste Collection: Check with your local municipal waste management services

for designated e-waste collection days or drop-off locations.

Retailer Programs: Some electronics retailers offer recycling programs for electronic devices.

Contact local stores to inquire if they accept EV charging adapters for recycling.

Proper disposal of electronic items like EV charging adapters is essential to prevent environmental harm

and to ensure that valuable materials are recovered and reused responsibly.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at [email protected]

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.

Best regards,

A2Z EV Team

When it ships, you'll be notified via e-mail, Grasshopper. It will then show as "On its way" in your order history.

@A2ZEV how long should we wait before contacting support about our recalled unit? I submitted my request on 11/11 but haven't heard back since. Don't want to put in a support request if you folks are just swamped getting through all the requests.

Love the adaptor, and sorry you folks have to deal with all these recall headaches! Looking forward to buying from you folks again soon.
