The 2022 could have the old subframe (the 2023 got cast subframes starting around March of 2023). What is the production date on the 2022?

The '23 may need tires - that's about $2k additional. Doubtful the '22 would need tires with 8k miles.

what are the VIN's of each, we can compare to others to narrow down the build date :)

With there being no difference between 22 and 23 I would go with the lower mileage.

I would try to maximize the warranty coverage to your needs. Very low miles/year, go with either. If you will hit mileage limit before the year limit, go with one with low miles. Rest are subjective and others have covered the audio system.

Builds before March 2023 had two 12V batts, builds after March 2023 only have one 12V battery.

The two 12V batts versions have proved to be problematic hence the reason they went with a single 12V batt system on later (and current) vehicles.

All other things being equal, I would go with the single 12v battery vehicle.

This will sound odd, but I don't think the welded subframe is a con necessarily. I had an issue where it sounded as though one of the welds had failed, Rivian checked all the sub components etc connected to it, ensured they were torqued etc, but diring their test drive, the issue persisted. They pulled the sub frame, confirmed it was the issue and replaced it with a retrofit Gen 2. Fixed the issue 100%
Oh, absolutely. I've seen several posts (in this thread even) where people have mentioned having it replaced under warranty. Just mentioned it in case someone doesn't want to go through the stress and aggravation of making a SC visit for it, LOL. ? Out of curiousity, how long did it take to do this on yours?

Hey so I know people probably ask this all the time as I am not new at all to car forums, but I am new to Rivian forums as you can see. But anyway, I can choose between a 2022 R1T Quad Motor with 8k miles or a 2023 with 3x as many miles for the same price. Part of me thinks newer is better, but 3x the miles seems silly. But I am asking here because I don't know as much about the difference (yes I searched and googled) but was hoping there would be an obvious answer from people who know these cars. I think I know the answer but just to keep in mind, I actually like the way the 2023 looks inside and out color wise MUCH better than the 2022, but I could live with it if it's such a drastic difference in your opinions mileage etc wise. Also to add, the 2022 looks new, the 2023 I haven't seen in person but I would imagine wouldn't look quite as perfect if driven 3x as long. Anyway, any input helps. Thanks everyone
Do the math on your warranty coverage --i.e., miles vs years!!!

Based on how long you plan to own it and how much you plan to drive it, having a warranty is THE most important thing for you to consider.

A lot of good points have already been covered. I'll add one that may matter. If you are financing, the newer one might be eligible for a better loan rate. I went with a '23 as it qualified for the new car rate at Navy Federal. Saved me a substantial amount in interest. I found low miles '22 and '23 and even though the '23 was more expensive, the interest savings closed a lot of that gap.

Here is the VIN decoder thread. No way that I’m aware of to get month of manufacture from VIN. Need to get that from Rivian or off the door jamb sticker.

a lot of good advice from others here. The quad motor vehicles come with the 175k or 8 years battery and electric drive warranty plus a 5 year or 60k new car (bumper to bumper) warranty.

So to add to the dilemma you have potentially 1 year less new car warranty on the 22 but you have more mileage.

You might try to negotiate more of a deal on the 2022 since it is one model year older and that would make the decision a bit easier.

Either way there are owners running around with over 100k now and still going strong. I know one who has over 80k on his.

Ignore the model year and mileage difference. Pay attention to features instead. A few that I would highlight are: Meridian audio, exterior color, interior color, wheel size (steer clear of 21”), tire age/condition, underbody shield (if you’re a rock crawl type of person), full-size spare, and tonneau cover.
Why steer clear of the 21" tire. I am going to go look at a 22 R1T adventure elcap with 7900 miles tomorrow that have 21 road tires.

Why steer clear of the 21" tire. I am going to go look at a 22 R1T adventure elcap with 7900 miles tomorrow that have 21 road tires.
Very limited tire options in the 21" size. As in, only a couple of choices. By comparison there are lots of great options in the 20" size and a good number of options in the 22" size.
