a state like Arizona which forbids Rivian from operating a service center
Umm, Rivian has a service center in north Phoenix, and will be opening another one (in Chandler I think).

Thanks for the info! That's why I reached out on this forum, to gather feedback from experienced Rivian owners in AZ to factor into my decision making. Not sure about a Tesla though. I was a very early CT reservation holder (2 x CT dual motor reserved) and have ignored executing on either since I first came up in Nov/Dec last year for the Foundation Series. Was very disappointed with the end result of the CT (e.g. final design, range, options, price point, reservation order hierarchy, etc.) and will likely let both reservations go. Don't want/need Model 3 or Y. Really want a pick-up, and don't like the Chevy or the Ford either. We'll see how it goes.
I’m not trying to sell you on tesla. Just telling you the difference since I own both. You will be waiting longer on road trips when DC charging with Rivians. It’s just fact.

just that you seem to favor Tesla since you have experience with it.
Why would you assume it's based on familiarity rather than lots of time in multiple cars and observation? I mean, I even pointed out a 100% objective measure about charging.

Have you tried for any length other makes?
Yes.

Bullshit. I have had 0 "suspension problems" in 2.5 years / 25k miles of ownership. "Suspension problems" do occur, of course, but only in a small minority of vehicles. Reboots? I have never needed to do that. But since it's a software-centric vehicle, I am totally open to doing a reboot as a first step in diagnosing/fixing a suspected problem. If that's all you've got to complain about, that's pretty weak - that's something you have to do with all computers/phones these days. I personally WISH that some of the problems with my other vehicles could be fixed with a reboot or a software update, but alas all of them work/don't work the same way they did when I bought them off the lot, and they will never ever get better.

Long wait times for service are a problem. BUT Rivian *does* prioritize issues, and *does* handle routine maintenance (e.g. rotations) in a reasonable amount of time if you ask. But if you think that your panel gaps deserve priority and refuse to wait for months to ge them fixed, then I guess you might be dissatisfied. But I personally have *never* demanded service for panel gaps.

My R1T is the best vehicle I have ever owned BY FAR. I would not trade it for anything. I plan to own it until it dies or I die, whichever comes first.

@PaythePiper is an undisguised Tesla fanboi - read his previous posts. I frankly don't know why someone who hates Rivian so much participates in these forums and tries to discredit Rivian whenever possible.

I personally like Rivian because of my experience with my Rivian, which has been better than my experience with any other vehicle manufacturer and with any other vehicle. If your experience is not the same, then that's no cause to go out of your way to try to cut down Rivian. That's just hate and resentment, and hints at a deeper problem with you because If it were simply a bad experience you wouldn't feel compelled to "get back" at Rivian.
I am a fanboy of no brand. I just call em like I see em. I’m glad hold on wait for it- STOP THE PRESSES!! this dude has 25k miles and no issues!!!! Holy smokes is he lucky or something ?

go read the long tenured poster here who just sold his shit with what SEVEN suspension failures? GTFO dude

And/or backtracking, "on fumes," to a Tesla charger because the ENTIRE DAMN EA STATION is totally dead. Ask me how I know.

Service times are long, even for something as simple as a new windshield. My tonneau just failed in Nov, one of the early ones, no parts or appointment until late Feb.
Kaizan (sp?) can now install and calibrate windshields, so that won't be a problem. The new SE Valley Rivian service center should be opening soon, so that should reduce the bottleneck on service.

Yeah I avoid EA as much as possible. If Rivian invested 1/100 of what Tesla does in DC, we’d be good to go with just Tesla/RAN

The car throttles when it gets ‘too hot’. Weird how my Tesla never does on the same damn charger ….. weird
Don't have any issues on my 80A rated charger. Maybe it's your charger?

Nope. It’s the adapter. It gets a tad hot and throttling starts. I get it. I’m in AZ. My garage gets hot. But it just shows how much better NACS is. My Tesla chargers just fine no matter the temp

Sure, but my example was a place where I could:

Charge early, and longer, on Tesla. Meaning too early in the trip.

EA or EVGO at the sweet spot. EVGO is reliable but 50k. EA is crapshoot but 200+ if it works.

Go much slower, and pray to arrive at 1%. I'm not much for religion.

Again it's a win for Tesla because we had two Tesla only chargers in the right range.

Hi Mark,

appreciate the response and useful tips. I was not aware of the Tempe SC opening up. That will be a HUGE factor in my decision process. That and I am doing a demo drive tomorrow. I am a devoted car lover, and not sure I will give up all of my ICE vehicles anytime soon. But the Rivians have caught my eye for some time now. And though it might be the right vehicle to start my EV experience. But I don't want to dive $70k-$80k into a bunch of problems. Your feedback is very helpful and reassuring.
No worries! I get the car-guy thing. My brother in-law says I've had 88 since he first met me ;). It's odd, as I have an E85 70 El Camino SS with a 2JZGTE swap and Nissan 6 speed that has 850whp and also a 93 RHD 70 Series LandCruiser with a 3.0 liter turbo diesel, so I like old and new.

Tempe service center is fantastic for East Valley and those down south for service. The service manager said they were keeping N. Phoenix and it probably be relocated nearby to a larger facility as well. That was all news to me (as of last Thur.). Looking good for us AZ Rivian owners.

I have two Rivian customers in KYIV, Ukraine who recently ordered jack pucks. Those people have some faith in Rivian!

To the Tesla crew. My wife couldn't wait to get rid of her 23' MY, everything about it except for Supercharger access she despised. I love Tesla for birthing the EV industry we have today, but not a fan of the vehicles. She called her Model Y (not an iPad on wheels), but an egg shaped Etcha-Sketch on wheels ;)

I live in far northwest Peoria. I own a Model X, R1T, and Mach e. I have charged the X with both my Tesla wall charger and just the mobile adapter using 60a circuit with commercial grade port, and both will throttle charging when the outlet or adapter get too hot, which can happen here in the summer. I’ve also had both the Rivian and Ford adapters overheat and throttle charging.
Of all the previously mentioned instances, only the Tesla wall charger and the Ford adapter have halted charging when over heating. I have not experienced the Tesla adapter or the Rivian adapter halt the charging process.

For me personally, it’s been a mixed bag experience with Rivian service. I think the people have been great and the company in general seems to care about customer service. The real issue is the waiting for SC appointment times and availability. I fully expect that to get better when the Tempe SC opens. I will say, I have had plenty of terrible experiences with “established” luxury manufacturers and I prefer the Rivian experience thus far.

I absolutely love both my Model X and R1T. I have zero regrets on both purchases, I can’t say the same about the Mach e though ?
