Can we make a brand new forum area called "AA & CP Discussions" so we can just put the whole section on permanent "Ignore"?

No one is changing anyone else's mind on this topic and it's just the same old rehashed arguments over and over and over and over..... :(
Sounds like a great idea.

When it's all said and done, Rivian denies its customers choice with their decision to not support CarPlay. The arguments of why we should or shouldn't need CarPlay will NEVER end because Rivian will never be able to provide an equal amount of CONTENT. No way, no how. And much of the content Rivian does provide requires a separate data subscription that CarPlay does not require.

The fan boys will continue to take the distracted driving studies and say "see!!!???, it's more dangerous to voice text" all the while ignoring all the other apps that we also don't have access to that have nothing to do with texting. What will they say when Rivian rolls out its own version of voice text? Will they not use it? Will they point to the studies then?

I love my Rivian. It's by far my favorite vehicle I've ever owned. But not having CarPlay sucks.
Hrm..... 10 years with a Model S and I *never* once complained about not having CP/AA. Why? Because the native apps were solid and any media deficiencies could be streamed from the phone prior to native apps arriving. This obsession with the car needing content to "entertain" you while driving is straight up ass-backwards and honestly, makes me concerned we give out driver's licenses so easily. I believe the saying, "shut up and drive" is applicable here.

This has got to be one of the more toxic threads I’ve been a part of on this forum in 2.5 years. Y’all…come on y’all?

I gotta unsubscribe as each entry is bringing me down and I just don’t need it.

If you want less threads like this Admin needs to separate out the carplay BS threads. There are a hundred on here which is why there is so much vitriolic response.

No no! Let it continue. Debate is healthy.

Until they add the functionality of Waze reporting hazards and police, it's not the same. Not sure why neither Rivian or Tesla will add that simple functionality.

Because Waze simply lacks legitimacy. The entire app is based on crowd sourced input that could dry up at any second should laws change or interest wane. No one wants to put in the effort for someone that could be transitory.

Waze was purchased by Google over 10 years ago for almost $1 billion and has more than 150 million monthly users. I don’t agree that is not legitimate.

This is a great debate.

I actually run Apple Maps directions on my phone, down on the charging pad so I can get reports about “speed checks” and “hazards ahead”. If that’s not a useful feature of CarPlay y’all are crazy.

This guy talks about business school but didn’t even research that Rivian’s don’t come with CarPlay!
Oh come on, let’s be cordial, it’s 2025. We’re not in the lifted Silverado forum.

Here is my bit of optimism on this topic. I do believe CarPlay will come to Rivian at some point in the near future. Just like it came late to Lucid.

I totally understand RJ‘s business decision to partner with Amazon and in-exchange offer Alexa. It’s a cringe worthy offering but it generated cash. But not all partnerships are indefinite. And when they expire, rivian will be more flexible.

That’s not why Rivian doesn’t offer CarPlay and RJ has said why many times. Rivian wants to own the entirety of their software stack. That’s it, and it’s why CarPlay is t going to happen with Rivian and their current leadership.

Donald, respectfully, I think you are missing the point and perhaps contradicted yourself. I understand what RJ said in the past about owning the entirety of their software stack. If that's the case, what's the reason for Amazon Alexa integration? Google Maps? Google Cast? And now many other "apps"? CarPlay is just that, an app. If you would like technical details on CarPlay integration there are developer docs I can point you to.
