They should work on optimization instead of adding new apps. My 2017 Ford Explorer had a better response time on the touch screen.
People say G2 is amazing fast...but my G1 is as fast as it seems it can be. Enough so they could toss in some fancy fade in/out stuff, etc... but I don't actually want that...just saying...

Rumors from X via

This. Latency in the UI has gotten kind of ridiculous. Change tabs/apps, slow AF. Hit the climate button and it takes 2-3s before the climate panel pops up. Used to be much more snappy. Touch sensitivity in the button bar on the bottom isn't fantastic either...maybe the touch targets are too small?
Always odd to see the variations...my climate pops up immediately on my G1.

But, but, but.... They reworked the Unreal Engine Renderer so it's more flashy! /s

I miss when software quality was actually a metric and not an afterthought.
Right?

Years ago, it was a standard part of a software project to test and refactor for performance boosts. Today, there are so many layers of libraries, wrappers and apis that refactoring for performance is going down a dark rabbit hole, only to discover the performance issue is in a closed api.

Steve Gibson (old school folks will remember SpinRite) still codes his apps in assembly.

I get my entertainment from driving my R1T. All the gee whiz entertainment stuff, other than Apple Music, which adds to my driving experience, just doesn’t do much for me. I can’t see myself sitting around and watching video content on my center display. I get a kink in my neck just thinking about it. I get way more than enough screen time when I’m at home. My R1T is my escape from all that.

On the other hand, I still think there is room for improvement on the performance end. Things like fine tuning the suspension (especially the rear suspension), adjusting throttle pedal feel, allowing for even more driver selectable performance options, working on efficiency improvements, reducing vampire drain, etc., etc. would mean way more to me. Unfortunately, I’m afraid that Rivian may be shifting it focus away from the Gen 1 trucks and moving on to the latest iterations.

Mine started that just after the last update. I did the soft reboot and it cleared that right up, back to being snappy for weeks now.

Mine was fine until the last three updates. Has been miserably slow since then. Even when I put it in reverse or park, it takes about 3 seconds to pull up the reverse camera and the vehicle controller pop up window. I even had SC look at it and they said it was due to my external hard drive. Well, unplugged hard drive and no better.

I would say that G2 is snappier than my G1 most of the time, but I've seen the same input delays with G2 that were present in my G1. Tapping between music and drive modes is consistently 2-3 second delay.

Apple Music still broke AF.

Love Rivian. But their lack of software quality in terms of additional features outside of driving is lacking. It's a music app ... This should be trivial.
Here are the issues I've had:

ATMOS has never worked with Apple Music and my vehicle has the necessary HW. Even service couldn't figure out how to get it to work.

On a long drive the other day Apple Music started to cut in and out and then it just stopped working until the next drive.

Sometimes it will start from where it left off when I get in the vehicle and sometimes it won't

It randomly stops after a song even if the playlist has a lot more songs.

I honestly didn't notice a difference between the two when going from G1 to sitting in a G2. It might be a tad smoother.

The volume control has been the worst.

Don't get me started on how confused the truck is, even when stationary, about road lanes and cars in front. Good thing I don't have epilepsy with how much the objects flicker back and forth because the truck can't agree with what positions the objects should be drawn in

" It's the cameras " No, it's shitty quality software logic.

Just in case no one could tell. I have a huge pet peeve with shitty software. And it's mainstream these days. Because companies cut/reduced dedicated QA teams and prioritize shipping fast over shipping quality

And it's not even logic. It's an unexplainable, fickle neural net. Good luck verifying that it's safe to drive you around on the highway. I trust Waymo, but nobody else.
