In most cars, the interior lights have a switch for off, on when doors open, or on. It doesn't matter what gear that the vehicle is in, the switch controls the lights from the sensors in the doors. I noticed with Rivian, the lights don't come on when a door is opened and it is still in drive. The lights will come on if it is in park or if I press the button on the screen, but it doesn't come on automatically if I'm stopped (holdiing) and the door is opened. Anyone find a way to get the lights to come on? It's annoying to have to put it in park to let someone in/out of the car and for them to be able to see in the dark.

If you are stopped (holding), then open a door, your Rivian automatically goes into Park, right? Then the lights come on?

For the driver door, that is correct. It goes into park and the lights come on. But when any of the other doors are opened, it does not come on. So if I pull up to the curb to pick up my son after work, while on hold or pressing the brake, he opens the door and no lights come on as he is getting into the vehicle.

I noticed a similar issue but in a different situation. The car is parked in the garage and has been there for some time. I want to get something in the back seat. I go to the car and open the rear door. The lights do not turn on. I wait a few seconds and they remain off. I’d need to open the driver’s door and then all the lights turn on.

I've noticed this for the gear tunnel. Vehicle is in park and has been off for some time. I open the gear tunnel door with the app to get some tools and the lights inside stay off. Would be nice if they turned on whenever the door opened. Hopefully this type of feature can be configured by software at some point in the future. ?

Same issue here - consistently lights don’t turn on with rear doors open. Anyone found a fix? Is it software bug or car issue?

You can use the quick access menu to turn on the lights in the cabin. Not the ideal solution, but just a couple of taps away.

That wasn’t available a year ago when I made this thread. Since then, software releases have enhanced the user experience and made things better with each release. Now they need to enhance the doors closing by dropping the window a 1/2 inch when open and auto close when the door is closed.

I have my Rivian setup not to lock at home because I keep it safely in my garage. But, then it does a couple things that seem weird.
1. It keeps the lights on the handles (for a long time, but I don't know how long).
2. It doesn't turn on the lights when I open the doors.

This second issue is kind of a problem when I go to put my kids in the car before I can get to the front screen. Why don't the lights turn on when I open a door?

Also, they turn off so quickly. So, even when the lights do turn on, they turn off before I can get my 3 kids into their car seats. It'd be great if it was adjustable.

Not a fix, but in my R1T I can just tap the lights as I'm putting my kids in. Is that something you can do? It's just up above the door by the handle...

Yes, that's what I do. But it's hard to find when I'm outside the vehicle and I can't get the ones on the other side of the vehicle, which is important when helping in the 3rd row.

If you are not in park, then the doors are locked and the handles are closed…so how is your son opening the door? If you are manually pressing “unlock”, then how is that less troublesome than just putting the truck in “park”.
