Love my new r1s a month old now. Even reserved an r2 but already reconsidering. First over the air update and now getting drive stalk errors telling me to park and car may not restart called service and told to reset and it worked. Then next day same thing and same solution. Has now occurred 4 times. Live in northern Virginia a hot bed for EVs and told no appointments until the end of April for either at home service or gathersberg repair shop. That is 2 months away. Unacceptable I don’t see Rivian being successful with delays like this. I suspect it’s not a coincidence that it occurred after the over the air update and wonder if it could be a corrupted file but they’re not willing to repeat the update. Anybody have a similar occurrence

This is a common theme here. It is like early Tesla. There are some growing pains and I had to wait 6 weeks to get an appointment. All my issues were resolved unlike Tesla which told me to go pound sad as everything was in spec. While I had to wait to get the work, they were very thorough. That is better than getting me in quickly and not willing to fix anything as they don't see it an issue.

I'd still buy my truck again knowing what I know now. FYI - if it is a critical issue, they often can get you in sooner. Try back after the appointment has been set.

try seeing if richmond can get you in earlier... Also keep in mind we're getting another SC here (supposedly) over in Sterling. So that should help alleviate things.

“Like the early days of tesla”. See this comment a lot but not true bought my first tesla in 1st qtr of 2011 (13 more over the years). Never waited more Then a week. It was true for body work with a lack of spare parts. But this appears to be software related. Also remembered they had an ability to see error messages over the air to determine what was wrong. As far as I can tell no such attempt made here. Probably best if they don’t sell cars in areas they are unable to adequately support or at least tell warn people of this

I'll just say, a software issue was related to piece of hardware that failed on my R1T.

I will say my Tesla service experience was better 3-4 years ago than it has been recently. The happiness of the people I interact with there has gone down tremendously in the last 12-18 months. A lot of them didn't seem to want to be there any more. This can sometimes translate into QC issues.

Add a note to your ticket and say that this is happening more and more and you are concerned that if the truck may not restart, it will be a roadside assistance repair. See if they can get you in sooner.

I'll toss in a vote for the opposite. Tesla service center staff have been far more friendly and approachable in the last 6 months with fresh products (Cybertruck, redesigned 3 and now Y) then previously. There was a window 1-2 years ago where service was severely short-staffed as sales volumes were exploding but a slowdown in the EV market seems to have allowed service to catch up. Still can take a few weeks to get an appointment but I've also had other times where they've just told me to drive in on xxx day and they'll take my vehicle in immediately - no appointment - and have me out in an hour (which is closer to 90 minutes).

How many threads do we need saying the same thing. Every third post on here is "service time is too long"

By whom? If you're just talking about scheduling in-app, they have not triaged the severity of your problem yet. Problems that make a vehicle unusable or potentially so get pushed up. Annoyances like a piece of loose trim will likely have to wait that time period.

Forgot model y too
I forgot my model Y as soon as I sold it. Well, I tried to forget it anyway but I've become good friends with the wonderful person who bought that POS. It had phantom braking from hell. It seems like 3+ years later, they finally have it sorted out on his car.

The Y had to be the car I most regret purchasing in the last 20 years, and maybe forever. On the opposite end of that spectrum is my S Plaid. I'll place my Rivian closer the the Plaid end of the scale.

The Rivian service experience is still like early Tesla--there can be good service, if you can get an appointment. Unfortunately, appointments are extremely difficult to get because service demand is so high; Rivian doesn't know how to build cars and they're full of defects. Opening a new service center only adds to the cash bleed.

Now, that said, sometimes Rivian service can't or won't fix your problem, and because they have a monopoly on the service of your vehicle, with no powerful dealer network to advocate on your behalf, you can be screwed. There is no balance of power here.

Personally, I consider wait times of two months or more (sometimes up to four months) to be unacceptable fraud, and I've considered suing. It's not a "warranty" if it takes four months for a fix. States should really have consumer protection laws on the books helping consumers fight against these kinds of practices from Rivian and others.
