Soon could mean a month or a year. Depending how you define "soon". Coming 1Q, 2Q, 3Q would be better. If 3Q I would request my deposit back and get the G580 or Taycan GTS. Different beasts but both great EV's.
To convert a Rivian ETA to a real ETA, take the last possible day in the range that would qualify as meeting the deadline. And then take the minimum they could do to claim that they met it. Then combine those two.

If they say deliveries begin in year XXXX, then historically that has meant that on December 31 they will deliver 1. To the CEO. And it will be much longer before any normal people get it.

"Soon" in Rivian'ese is defined as we have no idea how long it will take because we haven't finished designing it yet.

According to the Motor trend review of the gen 2 quad "early 2025". I also am getting impatience and posted a poll here and on FB that both received the most votes for q2. I called and talked to a sales manager yesterday a tried 15 ways to get him to at least hint. He plaid dumb but after trying for 20 min to get anything from him the best I could get was that maybe it will come out before Mach 31st. I think the uncertainty about the quad is hurting the Tri more than helping.
But that MT article was written in December. I have called Rivian several times as well - and I get from "soon" to 4Q, 3Q and 2Q. Yesterday the guy told me maybe "summer". I get it, Rivian is like Tesla. Suddenly the new models appear. OK for lower end vehicles - but not OK for people who are buying their halo vehicle and will start shopping elsewhere at some point. The EV market is heating up and getting better. Test drove the Cadillac IQ. Beautifull but no comparison to Tesla/Rivian. Spent two days with the new Mercedes G580 last week. Super nice but technologically inferior. Porsche is getting stronger. Audi stronger. Rivian needs to let us know when the Quad will be available....bottom line!

I too am getting impatient. I was back checking out the cybertruck and X plaid again today. If Tesla made a real suv with the the best part of each of those it would be unstoppable

Totally agree on the Tesla SUV - wish they had one. My Cybertruck is AMAZING. Better than my Model X (though loved that as well). The FSD is incredible and unmatched by any OEM. Rivian is 90% of what Telsa is and getting better.
Have you driven the R1S Tri Motor? Spectacular but the Quad will be unreal - if and when it comes out.

I really wonder how useful 1000+ HP is for a daily driver.

I know all you max performance people wants more, and know that its there if you ever need it.

It's not just power and torque either. The entire system must work together to harness that extra power to give a real difference. That's everything from the suspension, tires (PS S5 for street but what is it for off-road?), steering response and body rigidity (difficult on cab-on-frame design).

Sort of like the top speed on any supercars. It can go beyond 200mph. Great, when and where? We don't have the Autobahn type highways. Perhaps only on a track/strip days with pre- and post-inspection.

And if it's not a daily driver, what is it? A SUV is a utility vehicle, supposedly, so one can accelerate to 60mph in 3~4ish seconds while towing 7,500 lbs trailer?

Aside from the bragging rights, and speeding from one stop to the next faster than everyone else, what is it for?

Extend that lease on the S. You should be able to do that for up to 6mo or at least you could when I had my leases with them.

Wait for the R1S quad! Taycan can’t do off-road and doesn’t have the Rivian software. The G wagon is tempting but again the software in the Rivian is much better as far as capability. I think the Rivian looks better too.

It's OK if you don't get it. Those of us who do are in need of all the power. Anything less is a VW bus.
To the point of the thread I suspect building a car is pretty complex. Probably not as easy to predict the completion date as printing business cards.
I'm the kind who loves the suspense.

Remember the OP is a cybertruck foundation owner so bragging rights are a given!

Put me on the side of enjoying super quick/fast vehicles. I think if they don't announce a firm time frame, they will lose customers and also impact Tri sales. One of the reason I didn't seriously consider one is it wasn't going to hit last year, and I had no idea when/if it actually would hit.

The longer they wait, the less it will matter to the market. I probably would have been one of their key target demos. I am a multiple Tesla owner and have a Plaid. I passed on my Cybertruck and wanted something less outlandish but with performance at least close to the Cyberbeast and preferably better. The Tri clearly wasn't going to give me what I was looking for so I bought a used G1 quad to get me by so to speak and see how the G2's turn out.

My initial thought was to maybe sell the Plaid and buy a G2 quad, as the G2 would cover a lot of the performance envelope that I use the most: 0-100. At the same time, I might miss the performance of the Plaid and it pulls harder at 100 mph than many cars do off the line. As mentioned by @mkg3, how much power do you need for a daily driver.

I'll have to say the Plaid is the best daily driver I've ever owned and one of the few very streetable cars that still pulls nicely at 60 mph. The conundrum is how often you can really let it stretch its legs. At the same time, give it an 1/8th mile and it will be going almost as fast as the G2 quad will be at the end of the 1/4. It become pretty addictive TBH. So I am not sure even the G2 could scratch that itch for me but it would be probably good enough 0-60. While I haven't made that many runs (~20) over 200 with it, it has been drama free. I'd be fine with a top speed limiter of 130 on the quad.

So at this point, I'll probably just hold onto the Plaid until Tesla makes something a lot quicker and see how the G2 quad turns out. Maybe it will be compelling enough to sell my G1 for. At least I got the tax write-off I needed for last year. At least by waiting, I realized my instincts to not buy a Tri were spot on.

I am anxiously waiting for it to drop like others at this point, but willing to let others be the beta tester of it first.

"Soon" and Rivian has a history here. For perspective on RIvian's use of "soon", it appears that @kanundrum coined the facetious "s00n" back in May of 2021. It's been used in thousands of posts since then.

I believe I posted some time afterwards that Rivian's definition of "s00n" is somewhere between next week and when hell freezes over. My wait was 2.5 years which was short compared to some.

They don't know plain and simple. They won't give a date as it will be made up and there is a good chance they''ll miss it. If you want an actual date in response to your question I would suggest go buy a Tesla......

I've been waiting for the same thing. Sorta refuse to hand over $3k with no pricing structure nor any planned production start date. Been also difficult since they've magically made the Youngtown, OH service center disappear off the planned map too.
