It's OK if you don't get it. Those of us who do are in need of all the power. Anything less is a VW bus.
To the point of the thread I suspect building a car is pretty complex. Probably not as easy to predict the completion date as printing business cards.
I'm the kind who loves the suspense.
Don't get me wrong. I really care about power-to-weight ratio for any vehicle.

Its just that I am not in the camp that one size fits all.

There are different vehicle characteristics that ranks higher than another depending on the purpose.

Daily driver/commuter - good performance and comfort to deal with traffic and in-city driving

Road tripper - Comfort, size and good range/power ratio

Weekender - for me, that's a 2 seater sports car with great handling and power to weight ratio. Lighter the weight the better. For others, it might be an off-roader for trails and deserts (try accelerating hard with 1000hp+ in dirt and control the wheel slip to achieve best acceleration or control drift with good balance)

So I have a Tesla for daily, R1S for road tripper and working on getting the right weekender for me....

Soon could mean a month or a year. Depending how you define "soon". Coming 1Q, 2Q, 3Q would be better. If 3Q I would request my deposit back and get the G580 or Taycan GTS. Different beasts but both great EV's.
Soon started to become a swear word in 2020-2021

Buy what you want now, part with the CT and get a quad when it becomes available.

OP has only waited six months. My wait for a Gen 1 was 13...many many others were double or more that.

As one poster mentioned, talk to Rivian now about extending the lease on your current Rivian. As a repeat customer, I'd think they would at least try to help you out there.

It's very likely Rivian is trying to avoid the Osbourne effect by not committing to an exact date for the Gen2 Quad. (Assuming a decent percentage of people grabbing the TriMax would also be cross-shopping the QuadMax but are FOMO-types and would rather have it now).

Or they simply haven't completed tooling up for it. Hard to say...

Get a 2 year lease on a Tri. Maybe (hopefully) by the time the lease is up the Quad will be available. By that time time there'll be some shiny new alternatives for you to look at if you hate the Tri.

You had more patience than I would. The only cars I might wait that long to get might be something like an original Testarossa, '67 GT40, '63 Vette split window coupe or something similar. There isn't an EV in production that I'd be willing to wait that long for if I was actually paying money for it. Even a Rimac couldn't get me to wait that long.

Problem is there weren’t any SUV EV’s available so if that’s what you wanted you pretty much had to wait. I had reservations in for Vinfast Mustang Lyric Rivian Fisker, Tesla and Rivian just happened to be the first one that came available after 3+ years.

The wait didn't begin in my mind until 2021, because the company didn't truly exist in a way to have any chance of producing it until then.......there was no such thing as an electric truck that even remotely met my needs in 2018....If someone has the resources for a Gemera, they don't need to wait...

Ended up buying a 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT to replace my Model S Plaid. Love it. Still have my deposit on the R1S Quad. Now I hope they come out with the Quad in 2026 - then can get rid of my CT and replace with the Rivian.

Nice thats a sweet car. I will always love Porsche. especially if one day Rivian tech trickles its way up to them.

I test drove an Escalade IQ last night fully expecting to pull the trigger trading in my Gen 1 LE and pulling my Gen 2 quad reservation. Everything about the IQ is excessive in the best way and it is surprisingly more comparable to the r1s Gen 2 quad than you would think espsilay price wise as dealers are all ready willing to give 10k off the 130k MSRP so $120k puts it in line with what we expect the gen 2 quad to be. IMO the escalade IQ is just more in every sence and feels much more premium. I also love the imposing, commanding look vs the happy little guy look of the Rivian. The IQ rides amazing is wisper quite but then when you put it in VMode and floor it unleashing the 750HP.......... Blah womp womp it could not be more disappointing. the speakers make some fake motor noises and the truck slowly starts gaining speed. It felt absolutely pathetic compared to my gen 1 quad. For what they pitch as the big bad king of the SUVs the IQ and the escalade V are drasticly outguned in the world of high power EVs. I can not belive they took the powertrain of the Hummer EV and just pulled a motor off the back. In addition to pathetic acceleration for this segment it was clear that the power split was 50/50 and for those who dont know this is bad. The torque steer was absolutely awful to the point that even if I was ok with driving a slow EV SUV I would want to floor it even more often and it was downright unpleasetn to do so as the front end wondered all over the place. So I am keeping my reservation a little longer but after finishing this rant I will be visiting Porsche to see if I might be ok with comprimising ride hight to get down in a tycan cross torismo.

Why not test drive a trimax? It feels faster than the Gen 1 quad, and the finishings are a step up. It feels like a premium product. I like the interior styling much more than Cadillac on the Ascend interiors.

I can't speak for @bmedfo1 but he seems similar to me in that the Tri isn't going to cut if you want significantly better acceleration than the G1 quad. While it might feel faster, the only place where it is what I'd call significantly faster (when measured) is 0-60.

You also must use launch mode. Most other speed ranges I tested (with the caveat I didn't go 90 mph and up) it was just a little quicker here or there or sometimes the same.

For me the 0-60 acceleration is good enough on a daily basis, and that it where is seems to have the most advantage over the G1 quad. Honestly, neither the Tri or G1 quad do much to excite me once you get over 60 mph. Neither is terrible, but they aren't satisfyingly quick either. YMMV.

That is where the quad might do it for me. It sounds like the Caddy is a big bust from performance perspective. They should have kept all the Hummer motors. A friend has the Hummer and it is impressive for how quick it is 0-60 for such a big vehicle. I love their name, Watts To Freedom mode (WTF!).
