I used this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/125977373454

It was cheap and VERY easy to install...just clip to the sun visor. I used a small piece of foam about an inch thick to tilt the sunvisor down a little bit so the detector was completely level. It's worked great and the power wires tuck into the moulding behind the visor and down the A-pillar, etc.

Cop was going same direction as me a few cars up on a two lane rural highway. Speed limit 65 and he had rear facing radar and clocked me while PASSING slower cars. Yes I like to floor it when passing people as to not lollygag in a lane not meant for my direction! Got me at 92 while passing ?‍♂
I've been running one since 2012 when I got my first sporty car, Subaru STi. When I got the Rivian there was no question about running one since it accelerates so damn fast. Like mirrors on a motorcycle, it can't tell you what you can't see (they have to be running radar continuously, not over a hill crest, etc)...but it's nice to have one more tool to know when definitely not to do something potentially stupid, like passing with purpose on a two lane road. Combined with Waze it's been good so far. Hell, the modern detectors have such high sensitivity that I'm just as likely to get a hit from a cop too far away to care about. Translation...not a license to speed, but it is another situational awareness tool.

Anyone else experiencing issues with your detector powering on when the truck starts up? I have my Uniden R8 tapped into the mirror and historically it would power on with the truck ~95% of the time. Since the last update it’s only been powering on maybe 40% of the time. Not a big deal since it’s easy to hit the power button myself but just curious if anyone else has noticed similar behavior or knows what could be driving it.

No problems on my end. I've got my Uniden R7 hardwired into my Gen 1 fuse box (using a fuse tap) on the driver's side footwell...it still works beautifully.

I agree pretty much all info and options are within this thread. the hardest part for me was carefully popping/wrestling the mirror assembly off and then snapping it back on. I used the recommended probe-style wires to piggy back into the back of the existing mirror wire harness - made it super easy once you identify the correct wire with a multi-meter.

it always powers on 100% of the time when i get in the car. the only unusual thing about it is when the vehicle is locked for long period of time - i look in the windows and 75% of the time i see the radar detector correctly powered off. maybe 25% of the time i see its on...so I'm guessing the R1T randomly wakes up for a short period and then goes back to sleep - but that's a whole 'nother thread

I did have this issue after a previous update and figured out what it was. It was actually the accessory power staying ON all the time, and my radar was set to go to sleep after 2 hours of no movement. So when I would go back in the truck after it sat for a while, I would have to unplug and plug it back in to get it to power on. A hard reset of the truck did the trick for me.

^^^^ This is typically my problem. Happens randomly since I added the R8 right after I bought my R1S. Power keeps getting delivered and then the Radar Detector powers off after a specific amount of time. Then when entering the vehicle again, the Detector does not power on automatically because it was shut off via the internal timer. It has to be un-plugged and plugged back in.

Its a minor annoyance, but it does happen.

It's unlikely to be caused by this, and my speculation is on AC vibration as your area got hotter.

For those who use the Mirror Tap, would you be interested in a mount like this so that you don't have to attach to the windshield? I normally would go with the blendmount route, but it seems like its a crapshoot if one will actually fit and allow the rear view mirror to be adjusted.

I have it done and ready. I can provide an STL if you want to print it yourself. Otherwise, I can print and ship. PM Me.
I'd be interested in the STL. I'm still using the sticky cup that came with my R4, but it falls off the windshield on really hot days. I'm usually a Blendmount guy, but there's nothing that officially works.
