I'm not the one getting butt hurt from an Elmo GIF.
Go touch some grass, get a dose of reality, maybe get yourself an education.
I already have a masters and a bachelor’s. How many degrees do you have?

Also my issue isn’t a gif it’s the fact that I was having an adult discussion and you wanted to shit talk instead of refute what I was saying because you’re incapable of doing so.

You really weren't.

Ok, sure, you can believe this if it makes you feel better. Sesame Street characters shouldn't instill this much rage in people.

because you’re incapable of doing so
Here you go thinking you have valid ideas or arguments.

I already have a masters and a bachelor’s. How many degrees do you have?
I must have hit a nerve. Point still stands. You should get yourself educated. Maybe check in with a therapist.

No rage at all. It’s sad that you think you can participate in discussions and when you run out of canned mass media talking points you start hurling insults. That’s not the way discussions work. If you pulled your head out of your ass you might learn something.

Also I notice how curiously absent the answer to my question about your level of education is now that you’ve found out I’m more highly educated than you are. I suggest keeping quiet in the future and letting the adults discuss policy you clearly don’t have a deep enough understanding to discuss.

No one will build onshore until stability is reached. I work in a place where we debate this topic before the tariffs were implemented, whether or not to build a US factory. We import our core products from overseas, from our parent company but it's not China or any of the 60 countries listed.

Some people hit on the hardest part, people. Not the labor cost but the skilled people for the critical parts on some jobs don't exist here and the knowledge that does for certain positions won't leave unless for significant increases. Buying PPE is easy and is CAPEX but finding the skilled technical labor that's the hard part.
Part of that is what H1Bs are for. We could make up some of that through skilled immigration.

I don't really understand the argument that blanket across the board tariffs will lead to greater income equality. Even if you offset with tax cuts you by far are benefiting the rich with those tax cuts and are in turn negating any economic benefits in regards to the deficits. A much more effective strategy would be to increase taxes on the wealthy and subsidize and invest in the care industry (health care / child care / elder care) and infrastructure (housing) which accounts for vasts amounts of the paychecks of those in lower tax brackets that are barely helped by tax breaks. Doesnt make sense that some folks seem to be fine paying more for made in america but are anathema to higher taxes.

Oh, and I have a Masters, PhD, and MD, (not in economics or politics of course) so my points are obviously the most valid here. :p

I think this thread has run its course and the original poster should close the thread or the admins should. There are people on the Rivian forum who obviously have no fundamental understanding of economics, despite being otherwise well educated. And thats fine - but arguing/debating with those sorts of people, who refuse to spend the time to educate themselves, is like debating with people who thing the earth is flat or contrails are mind control chemicals. The person on the other side isn't going to change their mind and you're just wasting your breath - more importantly you're just filling up space in a forum that ostensibly is meant to be about Rivian and their vehicles.

For those interested in the economics side of it, and want more education on that topic (rather than just believing the BS from both sides of the media spectrum), might i suggest Khan Academy's Macroeconomics course - i have found it invaluable as a starter course when teaching high school students. https://www.khanacademy.org/economics-finance-domain/macroeconomics.

You might also be interested in khan Academy's section on Tariffs in their Microeconomics course. https://www.khanacademy.org/economi...consumer-producer-surplus/international-trade

For a broader-based, and more in-depth analysis of current events re economics, and as an ongoing educational tool, i would suggest https://www.piie.com/

Happy reading...

I posted an Elmo GIF. Didn't know that was rage bait. Sorry?

Wow more deflections. If only you were able to think critically, we could actually have a productive conversation. I don’t know if it takes you hours to come up with a few sentences of responses on an Internet forum but for someone with a decent amount of brainpower 7 messages a day isn’t an awful lot.
