The last 2 updates have substantially improved the ride quality of my car. I’m usually in soft mode and the compression and rebounding is so much better than before. On 95% of the roads, it now rides better than my wife’s model x. Extremely impressed and makes me wonder how good the gen 2 must be. The ride is now quite supple without bouncing around the way it used to. There are some inherent limitations because of the massive weight but they really have done some magic with the latest suspension calibrations.

The last 2 updates have also improved the charging curve and speed at DCFCs. It’s obviously not one of the fastest charging cars out there but for a 400v system, it’s been significantly improved. The charging curve is so much flatter and more consistent than before. Model x, by comparison, reaches 250kw very quickly and drops off a cliff.

Keep up the good work, Rivian.

Had an opportunity to take a short drive in our Gen 1 R1T with the new update and I also noticed a difference in suspension tuning. Like you said, ride quality seems to have improved and I though at first that the truck defaulted to soft.

Battery capacity is measured in kWh. kWh/minute gives you an easy to understand measure of how quickly you’re using up your charge. Yes, technically kW would give you the same information, but it adds complexity by changing the units involved from what you’re already using when looking at charging data and SoC.
kWh/min is a useful metric for something that doesn't move, like a portable battery pack, or a truck that's powering a house. It's not so useful for driving, where kWh/mi is more applicable. Low kwh/min might still be pretty good if you're moving fast, but it might be terrible if you're moving slow. kWh/mi is standardized against how much distance you're covering which is most useful in determining how far you can go which is what everyone driving an EV wants to know.

I am convinced that most of the people on Rivian's software team don't drive an EV.

This new drive energy graph is totally useless. Unless you are driving exactly 60mph, no one cares how much energy you are using per minute. The X axis needs to be distance, not time.

Dear Rivian Software Team,

The only time we need to think about the energy consumption is when we are on a road trip and are trying to figure out if we have enough charge to get to the next charger. If the charger is 200 miles away, help me figure out if I am going to make it, or if I need to make an alternative plan.

If for example there were rated miles consumed on the Y axis and actual miles driven on the Y, when I see I am using 1.5 rated miles to travel one actual mile I can easily multiply the distance to the charger by 1.5 and know if the guage says I have that much then I am going to make it.

It doesn't have to be exactly that graph, but it should help me answer that question. What were you thinking anyone was going to do with kwh per minute?

Also if you really want to show us the historical power, could you at least use a sane unit?. What were you thinking when you chose kWh/min over the much simpler and more standard unit of kW?
Same problems with Tesla early on. None of the dev team actually drove a Model S. All they had were bench test interfaces and occasional access to TEFV's (Tesla Engineering Fleet Vehicles).

For those still to install, you may want to set aside a few minutes to restart the software, in case, like for me, you lose access to WiFi. (Stopped connecting to the Wi-Fi that it used to download the update; scanning found nothing despite several networks in range.) Restarting the software solved it just fine, easy two minute fix. Just FYI.

Yeah it depends on how fast they roll it out. With 80-90% people subscribed to Connect+ it'll always come late. Though a week still seems pretty timely for a software release.

I mean, they explicitly said that charging should be faster on max packs, and that the change was due to improved thermal management. Keeping the battery cooler allows faster charging, thus changing the charge curve.

As far as MFA: security is inherently inconvenient. That’s kinda the point. Everyone has to make their own decisions about what precautions they want to take based on their own situation and perceived threat surface.
Yeah, but there’s a tipping point where “inconvenient” means most people won’t use it because of the setup or the complete disregard for real life (if phone dies or is lost/destroyed. Notably, the simpler solution if just adding a PIN solves both of these issues even if it isn’t “as secure”

Agreed. Plus, when I used PIN to drive on my Model S, I kept a post it under the screen with the PIN just in case I forgot it. Can't do that with a phone.

Yes, but that cuts both ways. Most people don’t actually need more security, and for those that do, real security is worth the added hassle. If it’s not worth the hassle to you, a PIN is probably also just a waste of your time.
