I love being right even when I did no research. So there we have it. Spouses of Rivian employees in Washington and California have taken ownership of delivered vehicles.
I really doubt this is what Rivian means by "non employees" FWIW. It's much more likely that a few Bezos-tier VIPs, major investors, and other significant figures have taken delivery.

Folks who won't start a funeral pyre for Rivian on the forums the first time they encounter a loose plastic rivet in the frunk, but will instead help drive corrections to manufacturing for our vehicles because they have a real stake in the company.

That said, it could easily be the case that a handful of "regular humans" have gotten delivery and we just haven't heard of it. Pretty unlikely, but not impossible. We like to pretend that everyone else is Extremely Online and a member of a thousand Rivian subreddits, forums, discords, facebook groups, or whatever. But some people just want to own their truck!

Hell, if I got my LE tomorrow there's a good chance I wouldn't tell any of you assholes ? Not ready to be conscripted into 400 hours of long-range towing tests with a fully instrumented vehicle and data science crew on deck...

It is for these reason I've asked the Administrator of these forums to ban you for life...

I'm a bit surprised they haven't done a closed beta type thing with preorder holders other than employees. Maybe they have enough employees for testing purposes.

I wouldn't mind being a closed beta tester.

Or maybe they have and we just weren't picked.

I contacted CS and volunteered to be a beta tester. They turned me down. :crying:

This is why it doesn't matter who is getting the vehicles - they are deemed customers part of the total order pool, and so whoever gets one means they are one closer to me getting mine. They were always going to have to give the early production to someone, and they chose to give them to employees for a variety of reasons. It also means that third party LE customers are going to be bunched together a lot closer in time of delivery, which I think was also desirable from their perspective. They probably wanted to avoid person A getting their LE in October and the final LE getting delivered a year later in September. They cut that down to nearly half.

It never had anything to do with wholesale delays or the total production expected over any given time period. We're all going to be beta testers too for the first couple years.

I am sure they are going deliver to some VIPs before the end of the year if they haven't already. It's a classic company statement that (as mentioned above) is factually correct.

Died of old age during the wait
Hell, even outside members of the company's board aren't employees. Could include them.

Don't really care if this years deliveries are "real"or not but...
You may not announce it but we would know... just saying.

...whoever gets one means they are one closer to me getting mine.
My line of thinking as well. I could care less "what type of peoples" are getting the trucks, so long as it's moving the queue forward.

As far as I'm concerned, the person that gets their truck right before me could be an employee... I could care less.

I am also totally cool that it's employee's and the ilk getting the janky "beta builds" versus me.

...course, I'm also a Max Pack order so... ya know... FML.

ā€œIt says actual human buyers outside the company have received R1Ts and many others will get theirs in the coming months.ā€

ā€œYes, there are non-employees driving their trucks today,ā€ said a Rivian spokesperson when we asked. ā€œMore R1T deliveries to come the rest of this year and as we continue to ramp into next.ā€
If I Clinton-parse the spokesperson:

ā€˜driving’ ≠ taken delivery

ā€˜More R1T deliveries to come’ ≠ deliveries to non-employees

ā€˜human buyers outside the company have received R1Ts’, ā€˜received’ ≠ taken delivery

I could go on and on but the point is Rivian has produced more weasel words than trucks for deposit holders…

We have at least one confirmed non-employee or Rivian adjacent person who's taken delivery this weekend.

Yuuuuup... it looks that way.

And to the shock of some folks on this forum, that person is not on here.

So... I'm going to hazard a guess that others have occurred and the owners either did not post about it, or don't care to post about it on an unsecured, public space.
