Hi everyone! Thanx for all the assistance on this forum over the last 2.5 years of owning my first EV. I have learned a lot from those with more experience than me.
I have a 22 R1T Quad with about 65,000 miles on it. Recently the cruise and Driver assist has started randomly cutting out. I will be on interstate or if using cruise on a two lane highway and I will get the "take control now". I can restart it and it works well for awhile then same thing. In about 150 miles yesterday I had to restart it 3 times or so. I have not filled out a ticket partly because it is a minor inconvenience more then a serious issue. Also I do not want to take service away from more important issues. I have had very few issues with my R1T. Any ideas?

I have a thread about this from last October, but the TLDR is even if you go in for service (mine didn't work at all for 6+ months) they are going to end up telling you there is nothing they can do and will blame it on Mapbox (who they use for mapping data). You basically will have to wait for future updates (mapping updates, not software updates on the car) and hope it's fixed.

Rivian service (at least in Atlanta) and driver assist in general are awful.

Were you by chance on familiar or new (to you roads) and what type of environment are you in? I ask because it will generally turn off if it's not sure of the surroundings. Here's some examples I've noticed

Additionally, there's a stretch on US 101 just south of Salinas, CA that's in an agricultural area. While this section of 101 is freeway, it wasn't until the second time I drove it that I noticed I'd get the "take control now" notice when there were noticeable farm truck entrances. Once those access points stopped, it would allow me to reset it again.

Another thing I noticed last year after they did overpass work on the freeway, but hadn't painted lines on them yet, the same thing would happen.

Last fall while driving north on I-5 at night the road crews had come through and sprayed that deicing fluid on the road. The effect was parallel dark (wet) lines in the well-marked lanes, and the ADAD couldn't determine the difference between those and the painted lines. I ended up manually driving for about 40 miles while those were on the road.

TLDR: I've noticed it seems that the ADAS system will default to you having to take control of the vehicle when there's a chance of cross traffic, lines aren't painted well/disginguishable on the roadway, or if the camera's just can't see.

It was rural interstate and highways and I have driven most of them several times before.

I've had it go off with the "take control now" message a few times, and within a second, the icon that I can turn it back on is on the driver display... along a relatively quiet stretch of divided interstate.

You will notice that take control alert coincides with the highway signs that notify you of “cross traffic ahead” or “end freeway”—ADAS in these trucks does not allow for highway assist in cases where traffic might be traversing horizontally.

That section of 101 & northern SB county are similar in that regard. Annoying, but sorta understandable.

Mine goes in and out, without any discernable reason. It will have me take over and then 5 seconds later I can turn it back on, no problem. It doesn't coincide with construction, overpasses, etc. This happens on divided highways with little to no traffic or cars. It is getting better for Gen2 but for us Gen1 I think this is the best it'll get.

I’ve been experiencing an abrupt sensor fault that trips off highway assist. No warning like “take control of vehicle” — just immediate regen and requires physical input on accelerator to maintain speed. Super lame.

Coincides with a sensor fault tell tale on dash that lasts a mere 500ms and then disappears and adaptive cruise / highway assist becomes available again a few seconds later.

When stopped at a light, I’ve noticed proximity sensors drop out on the rear of the truck intermittently. Likely related. Having it looked at tomorrow.

Gen 1 quad, 55k miles.

Not necessarily. I have been miles from any on-ramp or off-ramp, no construction, no slow traffic ahead, and it alerts "take control now", only to allow me to turn it back on in two seconds.

Please come back on and see what they say after they look at it. I am thinking it will be fixed in an update as it seems the issue appeared after the last update as others have said.

I have just started experiencing this as well. It started after the last update.

Another weird thing that happens with my 2023 R1S is that it hits the breaks and slows
for no obvious reason. Just driving along, and it decides that I am about hit some invisible
object, and breaks. I have it do this along one particular stretch of road several times in
about the same location, so it is "seeing" something, but the road and shoulders are clear.

Same, I get the bong, warning message, and disconnect at least 1-2 times a day now. I thought it was my comma setup and wondered if the harness connection was coming loose.
