I suspect the Gen 1 suspension improvements are coming but have been delayed pending more testing and development. The beta release notes described exactly the state of things, the need to “provide a better distinction between ride feel Soft, Medium, and Firm settings”, etc.

Over the past 2-3 years we have gone from stiff Gen 1 to anazing soft Gen 1 suspension, and we’re now back to somewhere in between. I think they’re working on getting it dialed in while maintaining stability.

And they can't please everyone. No matter what they do, some people complain regardless.

Just fix the bugs and lag. How about we start there?

I wish they would upgrade for free the charging pad. I use to love using it, but the phone will slip while driving and stop charging, so I just plug it in. I know I know....I should cry about it....but I am just throwing that out there!

Go aftermarket and be done with it for good (e.g. s00nish by @Sojhinn). Gen2 pad has not solved the problem in full.

Also have something coming (early August) for those of you who like the OEM charger.

Do you suppose a hands free text messaging solution is somewhere in the ten year plan?

Give me text, YouTube Music, fix the rear motor engagement clunk and add V2X.

After that.... I'll probably stop caring about updates.

They're counting on text messaging being obsolete in 7-10 years.

As we get to more and more software defined vehicles, more it becomes similar to computers and smartphones.

Since 7~10 yrs probably covers 90~95% of vehicle owners replacement cycle of any new vehicles, EVs are probably more likely to be outdated than traditional vehicles from years past.

It's not to say that the vehicle won't work, it will just like how 10 years old computer works. Just not up to date in terms of capabilities offered. This makes battery recycling very important to retain final value of the vehicle.

This is one of the reasons why I cannot rationalize paying well past the $100k mark for any EV. I suppose its bit like paying thousands for super high end gaming PC. The Range Rover EV in mid $150s to start and AMG-G Wagon EV is near $200K. Rivian is bit on the high side until R2 comes along.

Battery and computing technologies will obsolete today's EV as fast as they can and many people want the latest and the greatest so SW updates may go 7~10 yrs but just like iPhone 12, hardly anyone has it today, at least in US.

Obsolescence is not inevitable. Computers and phones get outdated because they interoperate with newer and newer software. A car interoperates with a physical road. Yeah it may not support Carplay in 10 years but in Rivian's case it doesn't do that now.

The main problem is right to repair. Rivian and others will use the software to make repairs out of warranty expensive or impossible. See what John Deere is doing to tractors.
