My super-tiny wish is for the car to sense the 2nd row fold button being pressed and automatically move the 1st row seats enough that the 2nd seat can actually fold. And then once the seat is down automatically return the 1st row to where it was. And then also do the opposite - when the seats are folded and you press the unfold button slide the 1st row forward so that you can actually get the seat up.

The current process for folding the 2nd row is way too involved:
  1. get out of the driver's seat
  2. close the drivers door
  3. Walk around to the other side of the car
  4. open the 2nd row door
  5. try to fold the 2nd row
  6. lift it back up after it crashed into the 1st row and inspect for damage
  7. seriously consider forcing it down but then deciding not to risk destroying the seat
  8. close the 2nd row door
  9. open the 1st row door
  10. move the seat forward
  11. close the 1st row door
  12. open the 2nd row door
  13. actually fold the 2nd row
  14. close the 2nd row door
  15. open the 1st row door
  16. move the seat back to where it was
  17. close the 1st row door
and then repeat all of this on the driver's side to get that side down because you are too dumb to remember that it isn't going to work like it should.

I cannot think of any reason why Rivian could not automate this with a software update.

My slightly less tiny wish is for a flexible 2nd row bench where each section can be removed and the remaining sections can slide laterally.

Allow people to:
  • Remove the middle section for captain style seats or
  • Remove one of the side sections for a large, wide open path to the 3rd row.
  • Remove the middle section and slide the side section over for a smaller path to the 3rd row but with two full sized seats.
  • Remove all of the seats for maximum cargo space

This would require the seatbelts to be integrated into the backrests which would also have the benefit of making it possible to slide the seats forward/backward without removing all of the child car seats.

In short, make the 2nd and 3rd rows more practical for people with children, which coincidentally tend to be the only type of people who use the 2nd and/or 3rd rows more than once a year anyway.

I wish they put the heat pump in the rear of the R1S where the spare tire could go. Gave up some good storage space in the front for big hole in the floor in the back.

I've never had a great bluetooth experience, and maybe that's not the right technology. I don't know the technical side well enough to have much of an opinion.

I did have a good experience (for the era) of plugging my phone into my 2014 Mazda. It was a USB cable, but I could view albums, filter by artist, genre, all, etc. I'd be happy with a slightly modernized version of this.

EDIT: Tell me more about this AVRCP thing. It's the first I've heard of it. What are the Rivian options here?
It's a setting on your phone. This Bluetooth Wikipedia article lists things (just jump to the AVRCP section): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bluetooth_profiles?wprov=sfla1

On most Android phones, you can enable developer settings and change the version of that protocol, since it defaults to a particular version for compatibility. Rivians accept at least version 1.6

I'm not sure if its a thing that can be changed on iPhones, if that's something you use.

A speedo in the middle of the screen in place of the useless images of cars, bikes, cats, goats and ghosts.
I want them to put a sophomore programmer co-op on this for half a day. Come up with 3 alternate layout options for the drivers screen. It would be trivial for them to do.

There is plenty of real estate on that screen that I can see, yet I have to make the choice between comfortable driving position and actually seeing the speedometer.

Blazingly frustrating.

FONT SIZE AND VISIBILITY, especially on the far right of the center screen, are key to usability for older drivers....

Best to all!
