It's certainly unfortunate but sounds like you're the responsible party. The trunk is not internally sealed in the Rivian, nor in any other vehicle I'm aware of.

Wiring just about always runs under the vehicle which is why even a slight amount of water intrusion from a window left open in the rain or a fresh water flood that just reaches the floor pan can be enough to kill a vehicles electrical system resulting in a total. If you must transport liquids, as we all do with groceries, the frunk is the place to put things.

Related beef, Rivian's all-weather mats do not have elevated sides and don't reach to the edges of the carpeted areas so unlike other all weather mats and liners which can effectively trap spills the Rivian all-weather mats will likely result in seepage outside of the mats - just a terrible design.

that's totally insane. some adventure vehicle! i always have my dog in the back there with a bowl of water. crazy to think a small spill could result in $8k of damage.
Water is a different story and OP had sap or something really viscous.

OP notably did not include the doxxing of the service rep that she included in her other thread on the same topic (good), but they described the substance as sticky like sap.

Which begs the question(s):
  • Why hasn't OP said what exactly it was that spilled?
  • How long would it take for a viscous substance to make it's way from the trunk area all the way down to the wiring harnesses in question? Why wasn't it cleaned up?

I'm going with *vomit*. I bet they had an animal get carsick in the back. Or maybe it was their drunk spouse.

Should make this a poll so we can all guess what it might've been. 😆

Water would not cause this damage. What was the liquid? It had to be corrosive or conductive enough to cause so much damage to the wiring harness. You can't think of any liquid that was in your car that caused the damage?

My question is if you knew you had an incident with a caustic liquid spewed all of the rear of the vehicle why wouldn't you clean it immediately? Why let it sit and seep? it's bizarre. Doesn't it reek inside? What about mold? Something isn't adding up here. OP needs to fess up.
