I need to get a lithium jump starter. My son got one a year ago when he was having issues with his Subaru and uses it often to help others. I got an Optima 4 amp trickle charger that is good for vehicles just sitting around but I’m starting to see the benefits of a portable jump starter in lieu of jumper cables (useless in helping others directly with the Rivian).

I know Rivian mobile service carries the big NOCO $800 jump starter but am looking for something less costly.

I got this one off from Amazon. Used to open my R1T when its 12V died and I keep it in my Frunk for emergencies and helping others :)

I just bought two of these at Costco for $70 each. My twins are taking our ICE vehicles to college with them and I put one in each car to ensure that they never need them ;)

Those small jump packs aren’t effective for EVs. They are meant for ICE and focus on short bursts of cold cranking power. EVs need sustained power, long enough to boost computers. This info is in the Owner Guide. Rivian doesn’t use NOCO. What they do use is a lead acid JNC, see rivianservicetools.com (Snap-On Tools).

One small note here. You're 100% right, BUT I was able to successfully (fully) boot my R1T with a fully charged NOCO (the one I linked in this thread) when connecting the NOCO straight to the 12V Battery Terminals.

From the pigtails in the hitch receiver, I was only able to open the doors from the driver's side and nothing more.

When using the rear pigtail, your current is limited, as noted above. Going to the battery, it's not. When I had a 12v problem it took around 5-7 minutes of charging via the pigtails before the car woke up and was responsive.

Used this one yesterday to jump a Tahoe. Key is making sure you keep it charged. Luckily it comes with a 12v charger so I try and plug it in a couple times a year.

Indeed. good thing is that if you have a 100w USB-C charger, it charges really fast, so in case is needed and you didn't have it to 100%, you can plug it in our Rivians and 30mins later you should be able to assist :)

I thought about carrying my old trusty craftsman battery charger in the gear tunnel just in case someone needed a jump. What do you think?
I carry a powerbank/jumpstarter to guard against possible Rivian 12 volt issues. Suppose I could help someone else out but that's not why I carry one.
