Permits has been filed for a Rivian Adventure Network station in Irvine, California (for 10 charging stalls) - at Amazon Fresh grocery store on Jamboree Rd.

And a RAN station has started construction in in Lakewood, Colorado (with 12 charging stalls). It'll be located at the Colorado Mills Mall - the northeast side of the parking lot.

Lakewood one is co-located with long established Tesla and EA stations where Rivian will more than likely price themselves at a minimum 20% premium over the competition. Doesn't seem like a wise location choice to me.

Yup, was just thinking the same. Even though that Tesla site is V3, they repainted the lines so you can actually pull straight in and not block extra stalls too.

Spectrum is fairly well covered. Bigger impact IMO to go fill in a blank space.
After looking at the map closer... This location is just blocks away from Rivian HQ on Myford Rd.. Spectrum still make sense, despite being "well covered", if their rates are comparable to the Supercharger nearby. There are people (including non-Tesla owners) who would rather not spend their $ at Tesla. Plus, Spectrum is home to a Rivian Space.

Places like California and Colorado are going to need a lot more chargers, even in places that are already well covered.

EV's make up ~9% of nationwide sales, but only ~1-2% of cars on the road. Simply maintaining current-ish market share means the number of EV's on the road will still double in around 2 years.

This will be even more pronounced in concentrated EV markets near Denver and LA where I believe EV sales might be above 30% (good numbers are hard to come by at a city level). These cities might see the number of EV's on the road double or triple with the next year because of strong sales off of a low base.

IRVINE RAN POTENTIAL UPDATE:

Looks like construction for something has started outside the Amazon Fresh in Irvine. The area circled has been fenced off and diggers/equipment is in place.

I live in Irvine, and that entire area including nearby towns are heavy residential.

I can't see a need for Rivian chargers (especially since they only support Rivian?) when your home is likely very close. I see a need for charger in more remote areas.

Of course I say this seeing Tesla Superchargers always full in Irvine haha. I wonder what type of folks are charging there. It is more expensive to charge than just plugging in at home. I can't imagine these are all "apartment renters" without the ability to home charge.

Plus like mentioned above, the Amazon Fresh is going away (maybe its gone already). There a TON of new apartments that were just built behind it so maybe the chargers can cater to those people.

I think most if not all RAN locations are open to all not just Rivians. Who'd use it? Anyone who isn't able to charge at home. Anyone who is just passing through, aren't able to or refuse to do business with Tesla, or don't want to wait in line at EA or EVgo. Anyone who needs a fast charge. SoCal has more charging sites than most places, but that doesn't mean there are too many. Far from it. We need more, so that there are enough options where becomes rare to have to wait for a charger to open up.

I am curious how the broader audience would be aware of new locations. I've not Rivian make announcements when a new location opens. People just find out organically? word of mouth? The small network seem under-utilized.
