I'll stick with Gear Shop, myself. But anything they can do to get more products in front of more eyeballs, the better. Also this makes it more convenient for people used to shopping on Amazon wish lists, etc.

The only advantage I'd see from this is Amazon logistics - but alas is still rivian doing that. Shame that Rivian vans don't deliver Rivian bits.

Amazon prices are actually higher than Rivian gear shop on the items I inspected.

Hard pass.
Don’t understand why they pick every opportunity to attempt to nickel and dime their way to profitability while continuing to blow cash on spaces like a drunken sailor?

Might be worth it just to get the correct item shipped to you. What does Rivian use, humans?!
Rivian fulfillment still, so still just as likely to get an aircraft carrier rather than the valve caps you ordered.

The gear shop has always been weird: Took 3.5 months to send me a return label for a broken gen2 key fob (that had already expired by the time they sent the email - and I'd moved house, so it was long gone into a random box, bit the 'loss' as it was bought with reward points) - and then one day I came home to find a set of crossbars on the doorstep which I'd never ordered. The company as a whole is clearly hurting, but of all the bits of Rivian this is the one that confuses me most, especially as an investor.

I have not shopped on Amazon in almost a year. I use the site strictly for research. I found that if I go directly to the manufacturer, the prices are generally (QUITE A BIT) lower, with equivalent or better shipping rates. Just so many other options out there.

I would love to know if showrooms actually lead to more sales. It makes me kind of sad because some of the ones I've been to, even in populated areas, are still kind of empty most of the time so I'm hoping there is a method to Rivian's madness.

I'm sure that's the thought. It is easier placing an order at a Space than through the normal channels (which is a another issue in itself). i lived a few blocks away from the San Diego space and I worked with them to get my Gen 1 to Gen 2 trade in ordered. Out of the 3 or 4 times I went in, only one other time was there anyone else there besides me. The one there is located just across the street from where the foot traffic is centered on the embarcadero, but there's nothing else to draw you over to their space. The building itself is a brand new, but dead development since they can't lease out the office space above it (biotech).

I can see putting a few of these in high traffic areas, but when they're having trouble keeping up with QC and SC backlog, it seems like the money would be better spent there. Attracting new people to the brand and then turning them into a net detractor out of the gate is not helpful. It's expensive to open these in the prime districts they open them in (and continue to open them in even as they lay folks off for the 3rd time this year, including their Marketing leader evidently as RJ steps into that role). It seems like SC's could incorporate a showroom at a lower cost.

Rivian was so focused on the customer experience originally, but that focus has waned in the last year especially.

People still don't know about Rivian. In my area, the Rivian Marketing director says maybe 15% awareness in this area of the east coast. Putting it in a high traffic area, ex. Tysons Corner in the DMV area, helps with awareness. Afterall, Rivian can't legally sell through these areas, only order online. Most people I speak to, don't know about Rivian (and at this point I am doing the work of the sales person and marketing as I spread the word). So it does the job of getting the curious people to stop by. The showrooms are also supposed to double as community spaces to help with Rivian/community engagement.
