I believe that I successfully installed sunnypilot (see below), however it still doesn’t seem to be activating - I’m guessing the NO PANDA means it isn’t connecting to the ACC ECU?

Try unplugging your OBD USB C and rotating it 180° and plug it back in.

Thanks for the tip. I went out to the truck to try this, and it now seems to be working ok without having changed anything. I’ll try not to touch anything and mess it up! Thanks again!!

Good to hear! It's one of those weird things that should not be a thing but is.

Anyone hear rumors that Rivian might nerf these Comma AI installs in a future software update?
Not really possible for Rivian to “nerf” a Comma install through a regular OTA update. The Comma device communicates directly over the vehicle’s CAN bus — basically the same network the car’s own ECUs use to talk to each other. Rivian can’t just disable the CAN bus without also breaking critical vehicle systems like steering, braking, powertrain, etc.

What they could do is make minor protocol changes or message ID shifts that might require Comma.ai (or the community) to update the car interface definitions — but that’s not a “lockout,” just something that usually gets fixed within a few days. In other words, they can make our lives a little more interesting, but they can’t shut it down entirely without shutting down the truck itself.

And what would be the point? Think of all the testing they'd have to do on a dead platform (G1) just to try to inconvenience a few thousand people. And if it makes you feel any better, I'm not aware of any other manufacturer making efforts to disable Commas on other vehicles. My Comma has made me fall in love with my R1T again. If they disabled it, my Comma stays and my R1T goes.

So, the way I'm hearing it is that Rivian is aware of the general format of the signals that Comma AI is using, whether through unique identifiers or general behavior (I'm not a programmer by trade, nor do I have intimate knowledge of CANbus protocol). But by using that information, there is a software build being tested that will put the vehicle into turtle mode when there is a match detected.

Liability, perceived or otherwise, comes to mind, but I also have no horse in the race. I'm just relaying the rumor in case it could affect the long-term viability of the implementation on Rivians.

That sounds like complete BS to me.

Can you post your current 3x/Sunnypilot settings as of 11/9/25?

Just looking for what you think is notable and your personal preferences.

Just updated to Nov 6 Sunny Pilot.
Previously at some point Comma 3x had spontaneously disabled longitudinal options.

I was trying to understand why Experimental mode was greyed out.

Now I've got it enabled again, I’m curious what you two are rocking and if I’ve not tweaked something that might be fun or useful. Or if I’ve tweaked something that is better left alone.

@gerrylum I know the "hack-a-thon" was a couple of weeks ago. Have you heard any update on progress on "angular steering" for the Rivian??? I remember there was some sort of a bounty for anyone who could make it work........but I haven't heard a peep since. Thought this might have been a hot topic during the hackathon. Thanks for any update.

I'm planning on making a video on updated settings as soon as I get the C4 and my truck back from the service center! That being said, I don't use experimental mode. A lot more trouble than it's worth, at least for right now.

Comma Con was a few weeks ago, the hack-a-thon is coming up in February, I think.

We have a couple of guys actively working on solving angle-based steering right now, but no breakthroughs yet.

They wouldn’t have much to gain doing that to gen 1’s… unless there is a gen 1 announcement coming at autonomy day.

I am beginning to think comma is a gift to Gen1 owners for early adoption. I really thought I would have lane stay and ACC on all roads in 2023. But glad to help the comma community.
