Is it really that hard to implement AA/CP. I don;t care either way, but most manufacturers can get CarPlay to work on pretty crappy infotainment displays. My son even has a USB dongle on his Nissan Frontier that allows CarPlay to work wirelessly to a cheap aftermarket radio.

It was never about implementation difficulties; it was about forcing users into their closed tech ecosystem.

Rivian will certainly feel the pressure if Tesla offers Carplay. I personally prefer a well thought out infotainment over relying on Carplay, but with literally everyone else offering it, Rivian might have to cave.
I prefer CarPlay. It’s already though out and makes things some much simpler when it comes to using all the app benefits of your iPhone.

especially given that Tesla's infotainment interface is quite good already.
Depends on how you measure "good." When a system can't let me answer a group text with voice, that is FAR from "good." If I'm driving to a site or emergency issue, coordinating with my team using voice to text is critical. In fact I send more group texts while driving than solo texts.

It was never about implementation difficulties; it was about forcing users into their closed tech ecosystem.
You mean forcing us into Rivian's closed tech ecosystem right? Since CP is open and accessible to anyone. Rivian wants to own our data, and own the data in our cars.

Regardless of individual opinion in this forum, CP/AA integration are important to the majority of car buyers and might make Y owners looking to escape Musk's antics look away from R2.
As much as I like CarPay & think Rivian ought offer it, I’m not sure Tesla changing their mind about it will move the needle much on Rivin’s choice. Rivian already most sees “all vehicles” as their competition, not just other EVs, and in the USA roughly 75% of new car buyers have CarPlay as one of their top 5 “requirements” for new vehicles (CarPlay specifically, not Android’s equivalent, apparently either more iPhone owners are new car buyers, or more iPhone buyers care about that feature then Android owners, or the survey was constructed poorly).

Since Rivian has held out in face of that kind of customer demand I’m thinking seeing Tesla cave isn’t going to really shift them. Either because they are serious about their position, or they have their own surveys about “why didn’t you buy a Rivian” and that isn’t anywhere near the leading issue.

Yes, that's what I meant. Both Tesla and Rivian have taken the stance in the past that they want users on their own experience only.

Everybody over here talking about Waze, and Tidal, and voice-to-text, and I'm just waiting for Microsoft Teams like:

Lol. I refuse to even install Teams on my phone. The last thing i want is Teams away from my desk. I have e-mail and a cell phone for those who need me, that's enough.

We own a Tesla and aren't interested in CarPlay one bit. It's just a different dumpster fire from a third party who doesn't respond to bugs any better than Tesla or Rivian.

Total incentives going away damage control throw something at the wall if you ask me. People aren't buying Teslas because they don't have CarPlay. Same for Rivian.

I had to ask because so many people think that Rivian and GM’s lies about CarPlay are true, and not greed based.

I don't think you meant to say it this way. Regardless, it is a fact that there is a non-zero number of people who are not buying Teslas or Rivians because they don't have CP/AA. You can argue that it's an insignificantly low number (I would disagree) but you absolutely cannot argue with a straight face that it's zero.

More consumer choice should always be the default. Hilarious to me when people are arguing that no one should want CP/AA and in the next breath complain that they don't have a certain streaming service yet.

Hasn’t GM dropped AA/CP?
They are in the process of not offering it on certain vehicles with more to follow in the future.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no CarPlay fan, but I know the only reason manufacturers are pivoting away from it has to do with the monetization of telemetry data. CarPlay doesn't work well where I live because cell service isn't always reliable, especially with privacy glass and in the mountains. I encounter numerous errors with it, more so than I do with Rivian's native system.

This smells of desperation from Tesla.

Their sales have tanked, other than the surge of folks who took advantage of the outgoing EV tax credit. Their designs are old/stale, even with their recent refresh. CT is a dumpster fire. And all that hyperbole about Optimus from Elon aint going to right the ship near term.

If this rumor is true, it looks like they are trying to get the holdouts who've resisted Tesla due to CP/AA because they know the R2 will be a hit and take even more sales from their #1 seller, the MY.
