Europe and UK to USA have been 1:1 for a while including similar options. None of that matters as the programs BMW will offer will smash Rivian. The R2 may have a lower MSRP by $5k but the financing and leasing will place the BMW below a R2. Also BMW will be giving 10% off MSRP left and right sometimes as high as 20% that Rivian does not do. Expect the BMW to be more competitive than you think.
I agree that the BMW and leasing deals may be very competitive with Rivian On the other hand, I expect the BMW dealers to add $5k or $10k to the MSRP for such a hot new car. When things settle down (late 2027?) then we can expect good deals on the IX3.

I'm definitely hoping for 1:1 pricing compared to Europe and the UK but I'm also presuming demand will be so high as to provide no incentive to offer any discounting below MSRP for at least the first year....

Lets hope there's no gouging like what happened to Lightning buyers at launch.

If BMW sticks to their conventional options pricing, the starting price is meaningless and the average selling price will definitely be in the mid to upper $70Ks.

I agree after the initial surge pricing will be open to some negotiation. Forgetting that there will be cheaper models with and without dual motor the 50 model coming out will easily be had for low 60s since not many options are needed and most are reasonable price (like paint and interior color). It is impossible to spec it into the high 79s since only options will be premium pack, some extra autonomy, glass roof.

Yes, it's looking to be long term sustainable growth...not the unhealthy exponential growth expected from Wall Street and those only looking at the next quarter.

Q4 will likely see a decline from Q3 due to sales being pulled forward. Sales are still being made and you are right rate of growth has decreased by EVs are hanging in that 5-9% range of all sales. As more compelling vehicles enter key segments like the R2 and iX3 sales will continue to grow.

Yes, EV sales will still rise because BEVs are better in almost every way. And as the technology improves, the ways they are not better will go away.

A good friend of mine just bought his first BEV: a Tesla Model Y. Why did he do that? He is not a BEV nut, or anything like that. He just likes the technology and the lease price was very attractive. And the car drives him wherever he wants to go. He loves that.

It starts with people getting one BEV in a two+ car household. And then it just keeps growing. I bet my friend's wife will get a BEV in a few years, especially as the road trip issues are overcome. I am still working on my wife. She is a tough nut. Beautiful, but tough. I like that.

It is true, once you feel the instant acceleration and quiet tranquility...I can't go back. I doubt many people will. What is wrong with Porsche acceleration, Cadillac quietness, and motorcycle fuel efficiency?

Honestly all car sales are starting to fall except for a certain few dealerships. Cars are getting expensive for the average person, and 76% of people have a negative outlook on the economy right now. Add in that we are now getting net job losses with a lot of layoffs everywhere, people are acting cautious. Heck, if I didn't have a well paying SECOND job, I wouldn't be getting a new car myself. My car is only 8 years old with 37k miles on it. No need for a new car. I just really want an EV and Rivian speaks to me. I got a second job to pay off student loans faster, but without it, I wouldn't have much extra income right now where I'd feel comfortable.

That being said, the fact I still hear the average person say EVs are much more expensive than ICE and then proceed to drop 100k on a new truck of SUV, really don't have any awareness. That EVs are too expensive idea really needs to be changed and someone needs to point out the irony to them.

That’s how it worked for my family. We got my R1T in 2022 and after driving it for a couple years I told my wife she could get any car she wanted so long as it was a BEV. Now we do not have an ICE although we will be picking one up for my son soon.

That’s how it worked for my family. We got my R1T in 2022 and after driving it for a couple years I told my wife she could get any car she wanted so long as it was a BEV. Now we do not have an ICE although we will be picking one up for my son soon.
Out of curiosity, why not a used EV for the kid? Unless you are going for really, really cheap for the 'kid's car' like my parents did back in the day...

Good question, and feel free to give your opinion on this line of reasoning. I figure that I've had almost 30 years of driving a conventional car with a gas and brake pedal. I have ingrained muscle memory to stop during an emergency by using the brake pedal. I figure that my son has no such experience, and a car with a good OPD rarely needs the brake. I want him to develop the muscle memory to apply the brakes in situations that require stopping quickly.

I will give him a couple of years with an ICE to make the brake pedal second nature.

That does make sense! You could go for an EV that would allow you to turn off OPD and require brake pedal usage. My sister's ID.4 requires her to use the brake unless she shifts it into a different 'gear'.

Was just more curious to your reasoning, don't let some random person on the Internet try to parent your kid! 😂

I’m just honestly glad to see legacy automakers finally producing EVs that people actually want to buy. The US is so far behind China with EV innovation, with most automakers producing shit EVs just to hit emission mandates. Looks like some are finally taking it seriously.
