Are you saying we will be able to use hands free while towing now? If so, that's great news.
Not really, or at least have not tried it.

A few updates back they added the ability to tell it the "thing" plugged into your trailer light receptacle is an accessory (like a hitch haul or bike rack with lights) instead of a trailer. It's right where you select which trailer is plugged in, you select accessory instead and then yes, you can use highway assist, adaptive cruise, etc.

I personally call it the "lawyer setting" because I have told the truck my little utility trailer and jet ski are not actual trailers just so I could use highway assist and adaptive cruise. Not saying you should do that, just that you can do that.

I do hope they formerly add the ability soon, it's definitely a gap. I can see no lane change assist in that scenario, but lane keep and adaptive cruise while towing should be supported.

Rivian has never had "eyes off". If you've been using it that way, you deserve to get ticketed.
I can tell you that before this update in my R1T Trimax. As long as my hands were on the wheel I could look away for as long as I wanted. I'm not promoting it, just stating a fact with my truck. After this update I can no longer do that.

can anyone confirm that the bass has had it's cutover maybe lowered as opposed to just being turned up? the resulting sound is "better" but I would almost describe it as more crisp/pronounced on the lower end.

After they went from Mobileye to the Rivian stack, it's been noticably less naggy if you look away for a few moments than it was before. That hasn't changed with UHF, but dog help me if I want to switch a playlist on apple music... It knows and starts nagging no matter how short I avert my gaze. Used to be, hand on wheel, could do that and not get nagged at all.

So both our gen1 and gen2 now have this; it’s a super nice update - and UHF is obviously very early days but super impressive considering where things were with highway assist just a few months ago on rivians own stack. Now time for the complaint…🤣

The physical HMI between the two generations is now starting to diverge, which Is going to play havoc with our muscle memory. I hope in a future update they bring gen1 controls inline with where they took gen2.

Here’s the manual for gen1 cruse control/highway assist (and gen2 prior to this update):
Rivian R1T R1S 2025.46 Update (Release Notes). OTA pushing out now! IMG_7020

And now gen2:

Rivian R1T R1S 2025.46 Update (Release Notes). OTA pushing out now! IMG_7021

Dear Rivian overlords: Please update gen1 so that it matches the new behavior, it’s much better for speed adjustment and the left/right thumb controls would work just fine for distance adjustment…

I also agree. The Gen 2 now works like the Tesla fleet. They need to do the same with Gen 1s. It will make transitioning from a tesla to a Gen 1 easier, and multigenerational families more comfortable. Ironically, I am still pushing down on the stalk to engage auto pilot on my gen 2, as I have been doing this for the past 10 years.
Both my gen 2 now have the update. “Kick Turn” is fun, but gets the truck way too dirty for me. I am probably done with that feature, unless it is absolutely necessary for a situation.

UHF is now as good as FSD was in 2018. The rate of progression is exponential. They did what took Tesla 4 years in 3 months. I would not be surprised if UHF is on par with FSD in the next 6 to 9 months, especially since Rivian is using the Radar sensors as well as cameras.

Is this new, or did I just miss the implementation? 🤣

I knew you could get there from the “car” button up top, btw.

Had to do a lot of driving yesterday. The ADAS system feels worse. A LOT of "Ping-pong"ing down a long, straight stretch of highway. Like the truck could not find the (well marked) lane that I've taken the truck along at least a hundred times. Granted, the road was wet, but that never caused an issues in times prior.

UPDATE: Out and about today. Roads 100% dry. No "Ping-pong"ing, so I am going to attribute it to the wet roads, and will keep that in mind going forward. The UHF function worked well on the secondary roads around these parts. I did keep my hand near the wheel in case something went wonky, but all it all, very pleasant! Drove up the East Bay on a well-marked 4-lane highway, in stop and go traffic using the UHF with the speed set to 45mph. It kept with the traffic and in lane. When I needed the change, pulling the steering wheel to the left moved me into the next lane without problems.

I came all the way up Rt. 114 from Newport to Fall River with the UHF/ADAS function engaged, and other than moving around slowed traffic and adjusting the speed upward when the road opened up to divided highway (Rt. 24), basically did not have to touch the controls! I could really get used to that.

I love the map update on the driver's screen but one thing really bugs me. I wish they could make the size of the left window dynamic so there's no wasted space. Either that or turn it off completely so I can see more of the map. When the music "mini-window" is displayed there's quite a bit of empty space covering up some useful map below. I know, it's a minor complaint, but it bugs me.

It would be great if you could just cycle the left tile off and have the map take that space.
