Yes! I have been experiencing the exact same thing for several months. It seems to happen when I'm on flat open roads with no one in front of me *EXACTLY*. I had it (Gen1 Dual) in for service and asked them to look at it. They said a sensor need calibration, but that didn't help. I'm glad I'm not the only one and hope they fix it with a future update!
I'm holding out hope that the December update corrects it!

Has anyone else noticed the "jerky" nature of the cruise control? Assuming it came from the mid Nov update as I've never had this issue before.

For context; once the desired speed is reached the vehicle decelerates quickly instead of feathering in/out around the set speed. It is more noticeable on a slight descent.

At 1st I thought it may be dirty cameras so cleaned the windshield/grille thoroughly. But alas, it is no longer smooth...
Exactly the same as me. I have an appointment scheduled Tuesday, but I can see there's no need to take it in now. It's very frustrating. To the point I don't use the Cruise Control any more. I asked to speak to a service technician, to find out if it was a problem due to software, hardware, or both. No luck. Maybe they will call tomorrow. If they do, I'll tell them others are having this problem as well. It must be a software problem.

If I set the cruise speed to 70 and enter a slight descent, the digital speedometer will fluctuate between 69 and 71 every 3-4 seconds. The curved bar to the right of the speed, will fluctuate between green and yellow. The jerkiness is very irritating.

Yes, the smoothness seems to be lacking. I got into the routine of using adaptive cruise control, and now Universal Hands Free, for most of my daily driving. I HAVE noticed since the UHF /.46 update that the systems are not slowing down sooner; waiting until the gap between me and the traffic in front is considerably closer. It's a bit disconcerting; it DOES slow or stop, just a bit more aggressively when tasked. At one time, I could adjust the distance with the right steering wheel controls, but now that seem to just toggle between the new driving attitudes. Have not had the opportunity to putter around with the knobs to see if I can improve on the experience.

Prior, it was a very, VERY smooth, controlled deceleration; kind of like a Disney monorail rolling into a station.

We haven't had this fluctuation with our Gen 1 (2023) models, with any of the recent updates.

Even if it's not a safety issue at present, I hope you who find it unpleasant will keep making noise.

Rivian always tries to make things right when they can. This is another thing they need to correct.

Best wishes!

I'm due to take my R1T, Gen 1, 2022 early model, in tomorrow. I believe it would be a wasted trip, being others are having the exact same problem, starting with the same update, in November.

Rivian has not answered my last 3 messages and so far have not allowed me to speak to a technician. They said they would call before my appointment tomorrow, yet I'm still waiting.

The last message I received from them, Friday, was asking if I had done a hard restart on the vehicle. I told them I had done a soft, but not a hard restart. I've had no response since.

Has anyone had luck with a hard restart?

Two thoughts, @cc84:

(1) Once I have a service appointment for either vehicle, generally at Portland SC, I can attach a message about any other issue with that vehicle to the service appointment in the Rivian app. Portland SC reads these messages and responds promptly.

(2) Hard restart is NEVER a bad idea when any issue might be due to a software problem.

Best wishes!

I've been noticing this for many months, I don't recall exactly when it got worse (I've always noticed it a bit), perhaps it was around November. It is pretty annoying now and generally the worst when I don't have anyone in front of me for it to 'follow'. It is just hyper-sensitive to trying to stay at the exact speed and almost like it is fighting itself between regen/power. (Gen1 quad)

I just got the update (2025.46.0) last week - Gen 1 R1T / no Connect+.

I took some highway drives over the weekend and I observed that ACC was noticeably BETTER than it used to be. Less aggressive about slowing down when needed, more aggressive about speeding up when needed. It seems to me they're continuing to tune the Gen 1 features, despite the clickbait posts about Gen 1 being "abandoned".

I suspect this behavior started when Rivian switched to their "in house" autonomy software and cameras. Since that change it does seem less smooth, but I can't say I have experienced what the OP experienced.

With release 46, we now have the option to select Spicy, Medium or Mild. Mild seems to be very smooth while Spicy not very. Definitely lane changes in Mild are much, much smoother than before this release. Spicy lane changes are definitely spicy.

Exactly the same here. Around November sometime.

When I talk about Gen 1 being abandoned, I''m talking specifically about its ADAS features. Obviously we are continuing to get other updates like the smart assistant. ACC is not ADAS.

I feel this problem is software related, even though no confirmation, or denial from Rivian. It seems to have happened sometime around the November update, for most of us that have the problem, so I cancelled my appointment, as it's too far away to take, not knowing any more than I do. They did not seem to be very interested. I can't see taking the vehicle in for what I perceive to be a software problem. Should I?

As a side note for others with this problem, I did try a hard reset. It did not fix the problem.

Have you, Girons (Grant), or Andrew found a solution to this? The December update did nothing for me. Did the update work for you, or have you found a solution? The update and a hard reset did not work for me. Thanks in advance for a reply, if you're still following this thread.

Unfortunately not; the Dec update improved the jerkiness ever so slightly but it is nowhere near as smooth as before.....
