2025 Rivian R1T - Large. Delivered on November 23, 2024.
Occupation
Retired
I'd like to see 100,000 miles (or more!) on my R1T. A little over a 10th of that right now after 1 year.

But, much like my experiences with Ford, GM, Stellantis (Chrysler) and Honda products; I feel like I am still in the "honeymoon" stage with a "Brand-E-New!" vehicle that has not offered up any cause for concern. Let's circle back in 3-5 years and see if anything begins to manifest by then. Nits, routine service and road wear - welcome! Major component failure after moderate mileage? We'll talk.

I hope that the Rivian remains solid - don't mind the routine service and road-wear fixes. The upside at this stage of the game and time in my life is we finally have large enough of a garage to keep the vehicles out of the elements; first time in ages. And I get the truck washed as the weather permits. Totally loving the R1T; no qualms with it. I scan this forum for things to keep an eye out for.

Unlike vehicles of past; >my< R1T is continually getting improved on while I own it! It's not like "crap, you mean I gotta buy the next model year if I want some new feature?". Through these forums, I see that 1st Gen / Launch Edition owners are still benefiting from much of this improvement process, too. That gives me high hopes that, yes, 10-15 years down the line, my 2025 R1T will still be a viable and functional vehicle.

I originally planned to keep my 2022 R1T for a loooong time, but then got a really good lease deal on a 2025 R1T. Now my plan is see what's there in 2.5 years. I have a deposit on a Scout... Or will get a next gen4 R1T.

Should make this a poll. 😉

Personally the only things that would really make me consider upgrading is if they make a model with a longer bed (6'+) and bring back the nicer interior color options.

Barring that, I'm hoping for 10+ years and plan on getting an extended warranty when they become more readily available.

My most recent / last Chevy had something over 270,000 miles before I sold it. But by that point I was needing to fix something almost every weekend, and average 1x per month was a $1,000 repair. So basically I traded my Chevy repair bill for a new Rivian payment. The Riv has had only minor issues in the past three years, all of which have been addressed by mobile service or at the SC while I waited. They recently opened a new SC closer to my house, which gives me confidence. Of course, i just finished paying it off... isn't that when things typically start to break? 🤣🤣

Have an R2 reservation but given our perspective timeline (and relative size of the models), R3 would probably fit better for the wife. Or maybe R4, lol. 😆

Until Gen3 comes out with the 180kWh pack and 800V DCFC.

It seems like the longer I own it, the more I love it. The next gen R1T is going to be even better.

I’m in the same boat. 66,000 miles on my R1T with an extended warranty out past 130k, so I’ll probably keep it until around 2029. I absolutely love this truck and can’t find anything else even remotely close to it.

I see zero reason to trade it for a Gen 2. Not one. Meridian sound, Bosch motors which I actually prefer the sound of, and I like driving my own vehicles. Lane assist is all I need on the highway.

Hopefully Gen 3 brings a real battery upgrade with 800V architecture and a few added creature comforts. My wife plans to keep her R1S as long as it keeps running.

I love my Rivian and I plan to keep it until it becomes a pain in the ass. Hopefully that's at least 150k miles. I tend to put 25k miles on a year on the island.

And folks, those are TURKEYS not VULTURES. My neighbor had a black sedan. The male turkeys would strut up to the doors, see their reflection, and begin attacking...

Plan on keeping it until the Scout Traveler is available. Put a res down in the first min they opened, but not in any real rush.

I am a tightwad and don't believe in throwing away money at depreciable assets every few years, so my 2022 Gen1 R1T will be hanging around for a while. I plan on getting at least 8 years, hopefully 10 years or more depending on how well it holds up. Just completed my 45,000 mile checkup last week and all is good. Will likely purchase and extended warranty soon, but I am having a hard time convincing myself to do so. Typically I do not think extended warranties are worth it, but the R1 and the cost of components for out of warranty work is concerning.

That's not being a tightwad!

I didn't know Hawaii had Turkeys.

Also, 25k miles a year on an island is impressive.

I absolutely love my Gen 1 R1T. We have 68k miles on it. We're also planning on getting an R2 - it is more suited to our use case. Urban driving mostly.

I'd love to keep the truck too, but have concerns mostly around the air suspension.Does anyone share those concerns or any others that would affect longevity?
It’s hard to say. My Model S is still chugging along after 10+ years and 200,000 miles and not needing much, while our complex Model X needed roughly $8,000 worth of repairs for silly items (rear seat, steering column) around 5 years and 85000 miles, and while much simpler our Model 3 needed a new battery pack around 115,000 miles.

I’ll keep it as long as the repairs still make sense…

Until a solid state R1T is released.

Or a Rivian that charges back quick enough to be more viable at towing regularly.

In the second year of a 3 year lease on my R1T Gen 2. If the R2 came in a truck I might switch. Will look at the R2S, but like the truck. Also need to review the towing specs. Might just purchase this R1T as I love driving it and it gives me no troubles.
