Hey Yall!

I’m gauging some interest around the community about their feelings taking their Rivian off-road. Whys and why not and hoping to hear what people think as I’m in the process of making something regarding this.

I’ve added a poll (hopefully I’ve done this right) to hope people participate in. Feel free to give your own thoughts as well as I think hearing from other owners about their experiences would be good.

Did it once, probably won't again. It performed wonderfully, but they're too expensive to fix if something goes wrong... But I also have a Bronco which is for scratching the off roading itch. To be clear, I don't mean getting it muddy, I mean going over rocks and dodging trees in the woods.

Totally get it. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts on it. I’m past my warranty now so I’ll be a little more conservative lol

I enjoy being offroad, but more of the sketchy forest service road than crazy rock crawling. Think trails rated on the harder end of easy or the lower end of moderate.

I need to take a course on offroad driving skills. A friend recommended one I plan to take next summer.

I'm not interested in the types of terrain that require rock sliders or other expensive upgrades. I have enough other expensive hobbies.

I don't need to keep the truck pristine. I hope to keep it for a long time.

I'm fine with minor dents, scuffs, and scratches. But I don't want to deal with serious damage to panels, suspension, underbody, etc. It is my daily driver and I want to keep it usable when I go back to work on Monday's.

Another poll option:
Want to but don’t have the time

A goal of mine is to take the TAT across Tennessee

I didn't buy my R1T to off road, I bought it to haul stuff and go 0 to 60 really quickly.

Besides the beater F150 does well also.
One of my first times off-road in the R1S and we were coming back down from the top of the mountain. An F150 was high-centered on a dirt bump spinning around trying to get over. Admittedly, the R1S scraped once the same trip when I accidentally had it in Low. Also had some hikers tell us their Jeep couldn't make it up - not enough power.

Anyway, the R1 off road is mainly limited by (1) tire fragility and (2) expensive repairs. I did not get the steel underbody protection (one thing I just slightly regret) which also limits how aggressive I want to be in rock crawling, but that may be for the best. When the Pirellis are fully worn out I'll put some heavier-duty AT tires on and then I'll go just about anywhere that a lifted pickup will go, but I won't be rock crawling the way fully built-out rigs do.

Pirellis puncture far too easily.

Comfortable and do it when I can, but nothing is available right around me, so it ends up being a couple times a year. Profile pic was one of the first ~3y ago

Took the R1S Quad to Moab as soon as we bought it and did several trails including the White Rim Trail and the car barely broke a sweat. Amazing performance. We did get a cut in the sidewall and had it replaced in Moab. Super fun!
