R2 will be will be my first EV. Excited about charging my R2 from my solar panels!
Roll down rear window. My 4Runner has it and I use it regularly. Hard to find.
Something brand new is always exciting.

The second would have been the fold flat front seats but from all indications, that has been scraped.
This is the reason we'll be cancelling our reservation unless something dramatic happens before getting the green light to order. We were single feature buyers so when they pulled that one feature we were out. Oh well, maybe next time. Our 2025 Model Y LR AWD and all-new 2026 Model Y Performance are doing just fine and aren't too long in the tooth yet.

A bit off topic, but I wouldn't be surprised if a version of that steering wheel ends up on the R1 at some point. Perhaps when it gets LiDAR with the next mild update.
if its well received, it makes sense that would end up on the R1.

I am most excited to buy my first new vehicle in 22 years, and that it will be my first EV. I am even more nervous than I am excited as the nearest Rivian service center is 300 miles away and Rivian does not have a good service or reliability reputation. If I could fine another SUV that was affordable and I liked and had a service center in my city I would buy it most likely. But for now the Rivian R2 is the front runner.

Very curious about the steering wheel. Those controls seem nice but would have to see them in practice. MB made a steering wheel that had so many buttons is was unusable so change is not always a positive.

This seems to be a universal thing with demo vehicles. Every year a carmaker debuts a car with lie-flat seats, or swivel seats, etc. Then they come back and say oops, safety regulations prevent it.

You'd think these car companies would actually understand safety regulations before they design it. Or (more likely) they're just designing things that look cool knowing full well it will never get built.
I don't get it. I had a 2008 Saturn Vue SUV that had a fold flat front passenger seat. It was a game changer in carrying the occasional long cargo! Did regulations change?

2025 Rivian R1T - Large. Delivered on November 23, 2024.

My R1T threw an error this morning and I lost my power steering (among everything else). Luckily, there is a mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and the front wheels, and I was able to hobble the vehicle out of harms way and do a hard reboot (which resolved the error). Had the R1T at "Drive By Wire", I would have been SOL had the hard reboot not taken.

So question: Does the R2S have a physical connection between the steering wheel and the front end, or is it "Drive By Wire"? Call me "Old School" but I prefer a connection somewhere in the mix that does not require a computer.

It's possible - remember, 2008 was almost twenty years ago, and that 08 Vue was most likely designed a year or so before (if not longer!) ago than that.

I don't recall hearing anything about Drive-By-Wire for the R2, but you never know. I have a feeling that it won't be a feature as it's quite rare on vehicles right now, leading me to think that it will be something that would get some press this close to release.

Yeah, no way R2 is steer by wire...not at that starting price point.

Rivian R1T R1S What R2 features are you most excited about? 1769539940597-rn

Tbh, I was expecting the new steering wheel in Gen 2 R1's. Wasn't it introduced like, months before them? Although as someone else mentioned, development cycles...

I think the answer has to be "No they didn't" based on the Tacoma's folding passenger front seat picture that I posted earlier in the thread. That's a current model Tacoma, only introduced a few years back.
