I'm a mt biker and hoping to secure an R2 when my place is the queue comes up. But, it occurs to me that I've never seen a bike rack on the back of a Rivian. Given the "outdoor adventure" vibe of Rivian, I'm assuming it's possible to take your mt bike on the car. Right?

The R2 has a tow hitch so a bike rack can be mounted there and also has roof mounting options, so a bike could be mounted there too.

Close your eyes and picture any hitch mount rack. A receiver hitch is what it will have, since they opted to be more conventional than the proprietary accessory attachment system that was in concept renderings. The roof will probably have the same crossbar mounts on the R1; for the same crossbars.

Thanks, folks. I assumed this was possible, but haven't had an SUV that has both a lower and upper hatch opening. I have a Rocky Mounts rack, which swings out of the way for a back hatch to open and then to have full access to the rear. I think this will work with both a lower and upper hatch, but this question came to me before fully waking up yesterday morning. OH, NO, THE BEST LAYED PLANS...

Here is my 2025 R1S with a QuikR Stuff Rack. I have had several different hitch racks over the past 25 yrs. including 1-UP. They are both excellent racks but the QuikR offers a few features the 1-UP doesn’t. Might come down to personal preference. Both have similar price points.

I have a Kuat NV 2.0 for my R1T, and the Rivian tailgate pad.

The Kuat works fine on an R1S, but in the T, you can't drop the tailgate unless you have the swing arm accessory. So I only really use it when i need the bed for longer camping/road trips. With that, you can get a 1Up hitch rack on the T and not have the same issue.

The R2 was meant to launch with a dual arm accessory port for OEM bike racks and other attachments, but pretty sure it's been scrapped in favor of the standard hitch mount.

I have a 1Up rack on the R1T. On the truck, the rack was up pretty high (as in to the wind stream a lot) so I added a 4" drop to it to lower the bikes a bit. That additional drop still allows a lot of clearance to the ground and when the rack is down in the position to carry bikes, I can lower the tailgate without hitting the rack.

You can use whatever you can put on a 2" receiver. Or, on cross bars.

Depends on the rack design. Some swing to the side, or tilt back, out of the way. The lower cost ones are fixed and remain in the way unless you remove it or bikes.

You are correct!

By the way, this rack folds/tilts down with bikes attached so tail gate can be opened. When rack is in the stored position (without a bike obviously), flush with the back of the vehicle, the tail gate folds down. There is just enough clearance. If you add additional bike attachmets this raises the height of the rack when in the stored/flush position and the rack then needs to be tilted back to open the tailgate.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
FYI - Kuat when tilted clears top and bottom on the R1S. I'm assuming they'll be this smart on the R2.
