I've got a reservation for an R2, but I suspect the initial deliveries will be priced higher than I'm willing to spend for a vehicle. So I'm wondering if Rivian will face a Cybertruck-like drop in actual orders vs reservations due to a higher MSRP than what has been widely expected for the base $45K version.

You forgot the "No LiDaR, no purchase" option.

I considered that. I personally won't buy it until it gets LIDAR, but I guess the poll is feature-agnostic and only considers the price point. It's hard to account for all the various specs in a simple poll, but you're right that's gonna be a huge factor.

We'll have to put off our purchase until next year when our Mach E lease is up. Originally, I was replacing our Lightning with an R2 but just ordered an R1 instead.
Well at least you're not exactly slumming in the Mach-E.

It's an interesting point though. Like for me, if lower-spec R2s don't start to ship until the R3 gets close to production, that would definitely make me consider switching to an R3.

I'm guessing we won't see a $45k version until later in the year. Launch Editions are all going to be modestly equipped, not base level. I'm expecting 55-60k but wouldn't be surprised if it were a little bit more.

I don't think we will see a "base 45k MSRP model" until 2027 honestly. My take is Launch MSRP will be between 55-60k.

I'm personally OK with 55k, I would like to learn if the Gen2 Computer would be upgradeable (looks to be an easy swap based on the location of it) to Gen3, and if that's the case, I might ignore the LiDAR and jump straight into the launch edition ones.

I basically want a smaller, lighter R1S with a simpler suspension regardless of price. I am hoping I can get a “Tri Max” that is basically loaded. I don’t need self driving. My only concern about not getting lidar is future resale value and no access to future updates that may leverage the lidar for features besides self driving.

I suspect the LE R2 will be fully loaded 2 motor AWD with a large battery so probably around $60K. I hope they also release pricing for other models (less and more expensive and w/ LiDAR) otherwise I will probably wait until more info is released so I can make a more informed decision.

Because that’s what I have always anticipated
It could be an issue based on build options but I did buy the R1T at a higher price than anticipated
So TLDR answer is yes bring it on

Currently we have no need for a second vehicle, so in spite of my R2 reservation, I have no issue waiting for the LiDAR, new compute platform, dual motor AWD version. It won't replace our R1T, just compliment it.

If the above works out to be 70-75k cdn (R2 is meant to start at 65k in Canada) then all good. If that starts pushing 80k+ they're going to have difficulty in this market.

For reference, a Dual Motor 2026 Model Y is $65,990cdn. R2 Resonates with me more, but will people pay a 15k+ premium for it?

I put up to 65k, but… Am looking for a tri-motor G3 with the ascend version of interior for R2. Beyond 65k I would be looking at a G3 R1T as I love my Gen 1 and wife has finally come around to driving the R1T.

Still hoping for some OEM do the audio like Meridian, but probably stuck with Rivian brand. Cool with no CP, but wish they would admit others do audio better.

OK, I have a question regarding those opting for a tri-motor. Is it mainly just because of the acceleration? I ask because we have a dual-motor Model Y Long Range, and it'll do 0-60 in the high 4s, which is fun to put a stupid grin on my face for punching off the line every once in a while. But as soon as it gets into the twisties, all that power starts writing checks that its suspension can't cash, and I back off.

With my Model 3 Long Range, which has the same basic powertrain and will do 0-60 in about 4.2 seconds, I can use that power more effortlessly, and the lower center of gravity and suspension geometry make it feel like it's on rails on the backroads compared to the Model Y.

I'm just wondering how a tri-motor R2, which seems to be shaping up to be more "trucky" than the Model Y and will probably have a higher CoG, will handle that power without being a one-trick pony for making your passengers poop their pants from a dead stop.

Tires, and/or experience. If you don't have semi-active dampers in your Tesla, you won't really be able to compare it.
