I've got a reservation for an R2, but I suspect the initial deliveries will be priced higher than I'm willing to spend for a vehicle. So I'm wondering if Rivian will face a Cybertruck-like drop in actual orders vs reservations due to a higher MSRP than what has been widely expected for the base $45K version.
When was the last time EV reservations lived up to the hype? As of late, it seems all the actual vehicle launches in the EV market have not met expectations(sales coming close to reservation numbers).

I basically want a smaller, lighter R1S with a simpler suspension regardless of price. I am hoping I can get a “Tri Max” that is basically loaded.

iX3 has been blowing past expectations. The problem was nothing exciting came out for a long time…until now. Cybertruck was 100k and a mess.

I think a $55k AWD long range variant will be released by late summer/early fall without question. That goes right for the heart of the Model Y and is the most important spec they will launch.

$55k for AWD and 300+ mile Range will be competitive with Tesla, and undercut the more technically impressive BMW and Volvo in price enough to be very popular.

The RWD and Tri variants I could see being pushed till early 2027 but I suspect those will both be much less popular anyway.

Because that’s what I have always anticipated
It could be an issue based on build options but I did buy the R1T at a higher price than anticipated
So TLDR answer is yes bring it on
I suspect those of you who already own an R1 are going to be less price-sensitive than the rest of us, in general.

As an R1 owner that wants a smaller R1, i’m hoping for awesome premium specs at price points that aren’t afraid to nip at R1 territory.

As a Rivian superfan and investor that wants as many people as possible to get access to the brand, I’m also hoping for truly impressive lower spec variants that pull people from Model Ys.

I think you’ll be able to get a $55k AWD version This year. If you’re holding out for closer to $45k it may be a wait. I trust Rivian to stick to advertised prices though.

I think you are asking the wrong crowd. 😊. Folks here will pay more than the target consumer.

You have essentially described the Launch Edition. It was talked about in the last earnings call by RJ.

$55,000 is what I'm hoping for as well, but I want at least a few options (20-inch wheels, a cool paint color, and maybe a fancy interior color). So, maybe $5,000 in options to hit $60,000.

We paid $53,000 +TTL for our Model Y in February 2023, so I'm not opposed to shelling out a bit more to get what I want.

Where are you getting YTD ix3 sales? It doesn't come out in USA until this summer (but out in europe?). I won't be able to decide on Lidar or no Lidar until finding out the monthly charge for the additional upgrades. The $50/mo for the current HF version is a non starter for me.

I think that’s a very reasonable expectation…but we’ll see. Model Y LR AWD is under $50k, so Rivian needs to offer a decently equipped LR AWD R2 for $55k or less. $60k is MY Performance territory, and its also 400+ mile range iX3 and EX60 territory…..so I suspect what you’re wanting will come in under that.

It’s out in Europe, initial demand exceeded expectations and basically already sold out for the model year. They had to add more shifts at the assembly plant to increase output.

I get that the market for EVs in North America is very different than Europe right now…so you’re still correct in that we dont know. Nothing in the US has taken off like wildfire outside of Tesla.

IIRC, the MSRP for our MY was $49,990, but we got the tow hitch and blue paint, which were extra. We also benefited from the $7,500 tax credit that came back at tax time. When I got my Model 3 a year later, the $7,500 credit was applied at the time of purchase. That's gone now, unfortunately.

Which reminds me, I bet the tow package will be extra too, so I'll have to figure that in as well.

I don’t think you will be able to compare the initial release to the CT, the CT was touted at 39k and initial release was 120k. A lot of people put the $100 down on the 39k truck and was presented with an option to buy something several price classes above that when it was released 300% higher.

Even around 65k (where I think it will be) the R2 would be 45% over entry price. If it came in at 55k it would only be 22% above entry.
