I suspect the bias for EREV reservations are because there are existing EV trucks to choose from and no EREV options to choose from. Someone wanting an EV truck will just buy an EV truck and not worry about the reservation. Someone wanting an EREV will put down a reservation on anything coming.

I personally think the EREV will be a tech dead-end that will last less than 5 years and show massive financial losses. That's based on the assumption that they won't actually be cheaper, and they'll come with downsides (loss of storage space & maintenance) prospective buyers aren't considering now. It's not that the market is zero, it's just that EV's are advancing pretty fast, and the number of people that will actually buy an EREV is relatively small.

Agree that erev is dead-end tech.

Scout should focus on the ev side. Higher volt architectures with better fast charging. Chinese batteries like the BYD blade 2 with appropriate fast charger can charge from 10-100% in 10 minutes. If I were Scout I would be trying to license that. That’s the future and the way to ease range anxiety, not leaning on gas like a crutch.

Aside from Tesla, Scouts in the best position to accomplish this as VW owns both electrify america and scout so VW could in theory start deploying appropriate fast chargers.

It'll be interesting to see how the rising gas prices affect scout’s fortunes given the current preferences for the erev model. We could see consumer sentiment shift toward pure Evs for that reason and scout could be left holding the bag on expensive to develop yet obsolete tech that nobody wants.

Maybe I'm the minority here, but I don't see range increasing more than ~300 miles or so, nor do I feel manufacturers care to prioritize that as 99.9% of people don't need nearly that much.

But if you're going to be building an overlanding/off road focused vehicle, you need that range for getting off the pavement. Driving out on trails, in the desert, etc uses up range quickly and there aren't chargers there. You can slap some gas canisters on your Jeep/4Runner but there aren't any options for EVs. That's my gripe with my Rivian. It is the best daily driver, but I can't venture far off the beaten path.

For your day to day driving, even increasing charge rate doesn't even matter to most people. In fact, I bet most people with a Tesla can probably get by with a L1 charger in their home.

That's the primary reason I was hopeful for the Harvester model.
