Blandest colors going. I know people can always wrap a car but between the greyscale + green and perhaps purple, it's boring.
I’m confused how you could describe it this way, because how many other car models have more variety than the color palette posted here?

Still betting this is the blue (from Motortrend review). Loving the Borealis as a limited edition launch color.

Let's see: your choices are: 5-6 shades of greyscale, greens, maybe blue, purple. No red, no yellow - the colors that Rivian launched with. Get rid of at least a couple of the grey colors - it's unnecessary to have that and put in something else.

They offer eight paints now, so doable.

I am hoping Catalina Cove is a red, yellow or orange since otherwise as noted it’s green, black/white or grey. Would expect red and or blue to be present.
Catalina Cove better be a blue!

That doesn’t answer my question. How many cars have a more varied palette than that? Purple, two greens and a blue (or blue/green teal) is way more colorful than any other car in this market segment

Everyone calm down! They make cars that they need to sell to real people. Yellow, red, orange, brown- these are interesting colors, but most people do not want their car, that no matter how much they love it, is ultimately a depreciating asset that serves a deeply utilitarian purpose. If you want Rivian to grow and survive, gotta cut them some slack, they obviously have a market research team and a whole other generation of trucks to reflect on consumer choice with.

These colors, like all Rivian colors will ultimately be thoughtful, nuanced in different light, and look great on the trucks.

I was really hoping for Rivian Blue, depending on what color Catalina Cove (presumably a blue by the photo), I may have to go with Launch Green.

That is if I don't go with a CPO R1S. We have friends with an R1S and its so big, I prefer smaller vehicles.
There's no real CPO program (no extended warranty). As I am in the same boat as you, I'm watching all this closely. And from what I've read, there is no difference buying from Rivian than any other source other than inflated pricing . Some have been very disappointed in the quality of the Rivian sold vehicle. And since they generally aren't even close to local, you have to add travel to the mix. After travelling to pick up the vehicle, you may feel an obligation to buy (sunk cost fallacy) rather than abandoning a not quite right vehicle. I'm looking at used Rivians locally, and hoping for an R2 before my current R1S lease extension expires in Sept.

I can't wait until tomorrow, please let me order my R2!!

I think that blue in the wrap is just a nod to R2-D2 droid from Star Wars. I'm leaning towards it being some other shade of blue like a variation of Rivian Blue. If that wrap is "Catalina Cove", then marketing really went overboard with these names.

Exactly right - they are in the business of selling cars and a majority of people don't want boldly colored cars during their ownership and during resale - I think Rivian has pushed the limits on distinctive colors compared to other brands. It's clear that most of the people that post on these threads like less popular colors like yellow and red. Not many post on this thread about their happiness for white and gray - but they are out there.

Fine. Let's look at competitors that actually have comparable models: Ford Bronco, Chevy Equinox, Jeep Wrangler - they all have more vibrant color palettes. Shy of the purple, Rivian's offerings are muted.

The key question is whether Rivian would sell more cars if they offered more vibrant colors. Secondarily, do the colors they offer help define the brand identity they are trying to create? I'd also like to know, when comparing companies, if there is a correlation between the amount of vehicles sold and the number of colors offered. I'm not sure of the answer to any of those questions.

That blue, to my eyes, tracks to this

blue. While I wouldn’t personally choose it, I think it’s solid and different enough from other blue offerings.
