Fine. Let's look at competitors that actually have comparable models: Ford Bronco, Chevy Equinox, Jeep Wrangler - they all have more vibrant color palettes. Shy of the purple, Rivian's offerings are muted.
Equinox - 1 green, 1 blue, 1 red, 1 white, 1 black, 1 gray. (Less variation)

Bronco - 1 red, 1 blue, 1 orange, 1 tan, 1 brown, 1 white, 1 black, 1 gray. (I would say this about in line with/ R2)

Wrangler - lots of variations, but should be said that this is a cult car for weird people. They know their audience.

I would also say that these (outside of equinox) are not the best comparisons for R2. The majority of people buying an R2 are going to be cross shopping a model

I may flip to R1T as well, but it's even longer than R1S so I have little hope of it fitting in our garage and me still being able to navigate to my toolbox in front of it. I don't want to have to back the vehicle out every time I need a screwdriver from the toolbox. Ideal situation is we get an R2 now and I pass that on to my better half in a few years and pick up an R1T when we transition to a different house (hopefully with a better garage setup).
I have the same concerns. I'll have to rework my garage and move my workbench to fit the R1T. It's possible, but it will take a little bit of work.

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Borealis in person, but it looks a bit like Barney to me in full sun. I love Rivian's photos of it in the dark but during the daylight 🫤

Let's see: your choices are: 5-6 shades of greyscale, greens, maybe blue, purple. No red, no yellow - the colors that Rivian launched with. Get rid of at least a couple of the grey colors - it's unnecessary to have that and put in something else.
Strange, it's almost if they are catering to what sells the best.

Amazing... But, like Rivian's dark photos, your photo is on an overcast day. I guess there's a possibility the photo I posted was overexposed. Need to see this color in person. Regardless I'm happy to see that they offer it, we need more color.

What me laugh at all of this is how you find the need to defend it. I've offered my opinion that differs from yours and that's it - but go ahead and keep quantifying it in different ways to invalidate my opinion not because there's value but because you need to be right.

I'm done.

I would not hesitate to get an R2 borealis - my wife's would not have it in any other color. In the sun it's a bit brighter which means I won't have to wash often. 😁

Interesting and a 180 degree view from what my sister's partner just experienced early last month. We happened to be visiting her in Phoenix, from Tennessee and he flew out to LA to pick up a pre-owned (I'll start using the correct term from here on out, thank you for the correction) R1T, I don't recall the details but the truck had less than 10,000 miles on it and was basically new. As far as I'm aware, and he's only a month in at this point, he has been very happy with the purchase. Yes, he had to travel out of town to get it but it wasn't a big deal, he flew out and drove back in the same day. He kept talking about how it was over 100k new and he picked it up heavily discounted lightly used.

We've been driving EV's for over 11 years now and we've only purchased one out of eight (a Tesla) locally and if we hadn't rejected the first Tesla it would have also been out of town as our local Tesla store hadn't been opened at that point. So, I don't mind traveling, I actually find it quite fun and a great way to get to know your new purchase. I would only be interested in a low-mile R1, and, again, I prefer smaller cars so I'll likely stick with the R2, it's actually shorter than our current Equinox EV. The other issue is our garage, I need to have our friend bring over his R1S and see how it looks in the garage, more info. to make an informed decision.
That's great for your sister's partner! I'm glad they are in the family now. My only point is don't confuse a Rivian used vehicle with a CPO from one of the other big manufacturers. Almost all other CPO cars come with some sort of extended warranty, like BMW for example adds a year to the factory warranty with unlimited miles. Rivian only offers an inspection for their used cars.

I'm still looking at Rivian's site for the perfect, low mileage R1S, but I am very skeptical as to whether their inflated cost is worth the extra few thousand in price, plus the travel.

Was just out on a run and passed the South Congress Rivian showroom that’s closed prepping for SXSW. Looked like setup was going on in the back with a slide deck that had what I’m guessing are R2 colors. I snapped a quick pic and I don’t think they appreciated that so I jogged off 😶

I may run back by after it’s dark to see if I can snap the full list.

Color List:

Half Moon Grey
Glacier White
Borealis
Launch Green
Midnight
Forest Green
Esker Silver
Catalina Cove

I am a bit puzzled why your photos are owned by Rivian Forums. Did you put the mark on your photos or did the site?

Fair enough, thanks for the information and additional context. Certainly something to keep in mind if we do go down the pre-owned Rivian pathway.

lol, it’s not invalidating. It’s a discussion based around real world examples. There’s no reason for you to react like that. I’m just sharing my perspective based on the facts.
We can both feel differently on something that’s subjective like who does well at having different colors without getting upset. I do still feel like Rivian offers more variety than most. But you’re right that they’re not offering more variety than anyone else.
