Well put.Yeah, so what. All this handwringing over waiting or not waiting for LiDAR... If regulators don't approve, it's moot. They will not approve eyes-off level 4 unless there are redundancy of sensors. While LiDAR is that, it doesn't mean they will automatically approve. Too many unanswered questions around level 4. Like who is responsible for accidents? All that will take legislation and layers of court appeals/challenges. The gears of govt. move slow, that's been answered long ago. Until it is approved, those with LiDAR would just be contributing to a development platform.
Adding to this, the non-LiDAR units will benefit from the LiDAR units training the system. Stated by a Rivian dev in one of the videos that came out recently:
