About right meow considering we are done with the first 4 Days of February. If the guides don't reach out next week there is a delay again.
I agree on timing. I'm not a day one pre res, so I'm in a completely different league of impatience. Last spring. I think its put up or shut up time for Rivian. I don't know that they'll face any immediate bussiness effects should they miss again in terms of major order cancellations but it stock holders will be pi$$ing razor blades and they'll lose an awful lot of credibility with pre-res holders if they can't start making meaningful deliveries very soon.

Must be an employee field trip. Because there aren't enough non-employee deliveries for a gathering like this, right? At least that's what I read on a forum... :)

Correct. The person/people that posted photos from this outing explicitly stated so.

Not that I'm jealous or anything.

I honestly think we're past that point already. Just learned of a friend of a friend who joined the company 3 months ago who already got his truck. He ordered when he started with Rivian, not before.

Meanwhile, 3 years after my preorder....
But the point of this isn't to give the employees priority, they're delivering to employees while they iron out issues with panel gaps, software, etc. Those employees are quite literally "taking one for the team" so that we have a much better ownership experience. Unfortunately that means we wait a little longer but I would rather wait and be happy than take delivery of a lemon.

I think everyone gets that and most people agree. The rub that everyone has is just... if you're going to do that, don't say you're starting deliveries. Say you're starting beta testing or pre-deliveries or whatever.

Unfortunately they didn't start off planning to deliver to employees. That was a late stage pivot after customer expectations had already been set. Just one of the "joys" of being an early customer of a startup auto manufacturer.

I was told yesterday that once your R1 is scheduled for production you will get a guide assigned. She also told me that if you change configurations that could affect your scheduled delivery and at the time, I was talking about 20" and 22" considerations. I even asked here that the wheel configs could affect my timeline for delivery???...she did not commit to answer it other than it was in the general bucket of "any" configuration changes. --- just an FYI

When I talked to CS on Wednesday I got a few nuggets… more of my random thoughts.

1) The website feature for est delivery date will be hooked up to their Salesforce tools and bespoke production software to get more accuracy. We’ll see when it gets here.

2) It was mentioned that people should stop changing configs to get this set in stone. I actually brought this one up, because I dont understand how you can manage production efficiently if allowing change up to the last minute. Tesla, while established, locks your selections once they’re made. This one is tough because with Tesla you can take a drive in the cars to know you’ve made the right choice, not yet a reality with Rivian. It’s a positive for us, with production implications for them to not lock it sooner

3) There is no planned updated delivery email blast (Im guessing LE orders are different there). The website will be doing this and I’m guessing it has to be live before the earnings call.

This is all well and good, as long as we have at least one opportunity to see a handful of color/wheel options in person before our R1 is scheduled for production. For these early orders, given how few there are currently, they could at least send out some swatches or something and have folks ship it back once they decide. Surely there aren't supply constraints with that?

My personal reaction to this is this (and I said it last summer as well). Its fairly evident that Rivian is not "Tesla" when it comes to intitial build quality and QC ethos. Thats all well and good and customers do appreciate that. But there is, as a purveyor of any product and especially such a complex one, a real danger of falling into the trap of trying to make it perfect. Its not going to be perfect. They could work on this for another year and it still would have quirks. At some point you've got to cut the cord and go for it, especially when that something has a technology and style shelf life---to say nothing of inflation posing a cost threat as the roll out drags on. They need to start putting these vehicles in driveways in a meaningful way.

I agree with this. Gap issues are fairly common for Tesla, but not stopping them from deliveries. My Tesla constantly gave me camera blocked messages and the trunk lid needed adjustment to sit properly after taking delivery. Im fine with getting these types of fixes addressed post delivery.

And they've stated their plan for doing that, within the constraints of their supply chain.
