R2 Performance Launch Edition Poll: Are You Interested?

So interesting how differing opinions are on the light/dark interiors. For me, I always felt the lighter interior on the upper half of interiors made it look cheap (probably because it's rare to see black headliner in most cars). Model 3 and Y are only finally getting this, while the S and X had it as option.

For me, that was always my biggest complaint - I hate light colored headliner - inevitably people with dirty hands eventually touch it and I hate seeing stains. So I like the black (especially the suede look). But that's just my own opinion. So I'm completely fine that the LE only comes with the dark interior.

I agree with you, black headliners feel more premium to me, but I like lighter seats too. For some reason, you can’t have it both ways with Rivian.

Ironically, it's usually the guys fixing the car that end up smearing grease on the light headliner.

Same. Originally wanted the Tri but there are no details and LE is pretty good.
I want the LIDAR but I am willing to compromise on that for LE free goodies.
But if the light interior is simply not an option on the LE, then that likely pushes me to wait.

For me the bigger thing I want to hold out for is the Gen 3 Autonomy Computer and Rivian Processors - this seems like a HUGE leap in processing power and I feel like buying a LE R2 with the Gen 2 Autonomy Computer in it will end up leaving me in the same boat many Gen 1 R1 purchasers have been in. There will inevitably be features that are not possible on the Gen 2 hardware and only push to Gen 3 vehicles.

As much as I want to buy a Launch Edition R2, the lack of the Gen 3 compute is what is holding me back. If it was just missing LIDAR but had the Gen 3 compute then I would jump on it with no questions asked - because Rivian has already said that the LIDAR is more about data collection and training their self-driving models. Eventually they will be dropping the LIDAR from vehicles once they have collected enough data to flush out their visual model.

The non-LiDAR R2 units will benefit from the LiDAR units learning. Stated by Rivian Autonomy employee in interview. I posted a link to it previously. There are subjective reasons to wait for it and there are subjective reasons to not wait for it. Very much a personal decision.

I'm in for the LE, ideally a good leasing offer. And hopefully with the cloud interior. Normally purchasing makes sense for me, but for a LE, leasing lowers my risk on an unproven model.

We’re not sure if Rivian is leasing the R2 LE, but it makes sense. Also the Cloud White interior is not available at launch. No one knows when it will be available or if it’s a supplier issue or just an attempt at streamlining production. Bummer.

after 400 votes, roughly 69% of the forum population have strong interest in the R2LE. I would have thought it would be more. Bit surprised.

Perhaps the intro of iX3 and EX60, was well as the initial pricing that lessened the desire for the R2.

If the Rivian enthusiasts are showing less than 70% interest, the general public would be significantly less, I would think.... That said, Rivian is planning to make only 20K~25K R2 this year so the initial surge will consume most of those sales and would not be able to gauge the real demand for the vehicle until late 2026 onto 2027.

Hope Rivian gets the lower priced variants out quickly to increase the addressable market.

That's just interest in the Lauch edition, the highest priced trim. Many are waiting for a lower priced trim or a later version of R2 that has LIDAR. I'm surprised it is as high as 69% given all the commnts on other threads here about wanting LIDAR.

Perhaps, as Budman observed, the Autonomy hardware, i.e. LIDAR and RAP1 are the reason we aren't looking at 100% expressing strong interest. The "Will you wait" poll, with 397 participants, says ~72% will wait, almost exactly the reverse of the "LE interest" poll numbers in this thread. Probably an illustration on the risks around extrapolating too much from informal polls.

Kidding aside, 9.8" ground clearance is high for shorter people to step in.

This seems like it might be the perfect blend of our two current vehicles (iX + Wrangler), since we're dropping down to a single ride, and adding the vibe/features of a previous (and one of our faves, a T4R).

And our new digs will with 10 miles of two service centers.

Seriously considering the 20" setup just to be a little more curb-proof

Currently a Gen 2 R1S Quad owner. Traded my Gen 1 Quad for the Gen 2. Reserved the R2 on March 7 2024. I am definitely a yes for the Launch Edition as soon as Rivian will sell me one. Leasing makes the most sense for EVs. Three years is an eternity in their product cycle. With gas approaching $10 a gallon in some areas of the country, an early R2 purchase is a no brainer for me. Now if I can just convince my wife to part with her PriusV!

I'd say try getting in and out of a Toyota 4Runner. They have the same ground clearance.
