I suspect that will turn Palo Alto test lab into R3X/ Tri motor design focus mid to late this year to get started in preparation for the GA plant to be ready to fabricate in 2028.

I have heard a lot of people want to do Launch, but then later found out that the light interior is not available to do so. So the big question is do you still do it with dark interior to get something sooner or wait and see if they extend the launch edition to include light interior. I honestly believe the launch edition will go on until they are ready to push out RAP1/Lidar builds in early 2027 (yes no longer late 2026 as it is delayed). If they are only able to make 20-25k R2's with one shift this year, I think that is how many LE's are going to go out. Anyone know how many R1T/S's LE's were sold until they closed it? Thought I saw only 5k total each?
I prefer dark/black interiors. I get really dirty and really wet sometimes at work, and I don't want to worry about whether my jeans are staining the seats.

Hey, you do you. I get it. I personally am not a fan of all dark interiors. Makes the interior feel cavernous. I like a two tone effect with some lightness to it. You spend the most time inside the vehicle. Make sure you get it how you want it :)

The full glass roof helps

yes and no, still feels dark, cavernous and too monolithic/ bland. Need variation and contrast to create more interest and inviting experience.

If I was sure I could get a decent lease deal, then I would say Yes. I think demand and low availability will put it out of reach. Ended up leasing a Polestar 3 to accompany my 25' R1T. Polestar is running some decent lease incentives right now.

I didn't put in a reservation until February 2025 so I'm probably too far back in line but I'd love to get a launch edition.

Same. Originally wanted the Tri but there are no details and LE is pretty good.
I want the LIDAR but I am willing to compromise on that for LE free goodies.
But if the light interior is simply not an option on the LE, then that likely pushes me to wait.

PREMIUMPERFORMANCEPERFORMANCE + LEPRICE (compared to Premium)?
-Compass Yellow brake calipers and accentsY$300?
20" All-season wheels and tires21" All-season wheels and tiresY$3000?
-Semi-active suspensionY$2000?
-Drive modes: Soft Sandy & Rally Y$1000?
537 lb-ftTorque, 450 hp, 0-60mph 4.6s609 lb-ftTorque, 656 hp, 0-60mph 3.6sY$2000?
--Launch key fob $250
--Tow Package$1000?
--Autonomy+$2500
--LE Green Color$2500?

I am assuming, in future Rivian may offer performance upgrades via a software update to existing premium owners, provided these are same motors - worth $2000? It would still be partial upgrade, without the semi-active suspension.

For an average commuter like me, semi active suspension is the only upgrade worth it, rest :
  • Color of the brake calipers does not matter.
  • 4.6s is fast enough.
  • 20" All-season wheels and tires are good enough, they are not bad looking either.
Other essentials such as tow package are not very expensive.

It is quite obvious, the LE with Launch Package offers significant value, today.

Rivian would offer test-ride but the LE, and I doubt any of those famous and honest YouTubers would be able to compare the suspensions either, premium will not be available yet.

For me it boils down to: semi-active suspension vs RAP1 & LiDAR and I value ride quality more than the autonomy. I am not sure, quite a tricky situation, I feel helpless, I may remain undecided.

Especially with the R1T because it hides the crappy suspension that the Gen 1 R1S doesn't. You have reliable Bosch motors and just some crappy cameras and driver+ which isn't the end of the world. To me the R2 is a downgrade from the Gen 1 R1. I have 2x R2 reservations and unlikely to use them and would only consider the Gen 3 lidar for the wife.
If the suspension is quiet and there's no gear lash, its an upgrade from my R1T.

I said “yes” before I realized I may not get the light interior…that may change things.

Cancelled my day 1, hour 1 R2 reservation and sticking with my 4 year old R1T for now. Perhaps an R3 or R3X someday.
Same. Reserved two R2's in first 20 mins, both cancelled. R1 is just too good!

As much as I generally prefer light interiors, I'm not going to hold out for one just because the launch package doesn't include it. The other included LE options provide a lot of value whereas you'd have to add them separately otherwise. I do prefer the light look though.
